Your car gets a regular MOT – why not your body?

If you're 40-74 and without a pre-existing condition, you should be invited for an NHS health check every 5 years (by your GP practice or local council).

This free test can check for health problems you don’t even know you have. A simple 20 to 30 minutes can tell you if you’re at higher risk of developing conditions like heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease or stroke. Knowledge is power and knowing your risk gives you the chance to take positive action.

Search “NHS over 40 health check”.

☀️ Heat Health Advice: Stay Safe in the Hot Weather☀️

With temperatures expected to be very high this week, it's important to take extra care of yourself and those around you.

🌡️ Stay Cool:
• Keep out of direct sun between 11am and 3pm where possible.
• Stay in the shade and wear loose, light-coloured clothing.
• Keep your home cool by closing curtains or blinds in sunny rooms.

💧 Stay Hydrated:
• Drink plenty of water regularly, even if you don't feel thirsty.
• Avoid excessive alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks, which can contribute to dehydration.

🧴 Protect Your Skin:
• Apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and reapply regularly, especially if sweating or spending time outdoors.
• Wear a wide-brimmed hat and UV-protective sunglasses.
• Take care to avoid sunburn, which can happen quickly during periods of extreme heat.

👶👵 Look After Vulnerable People:
Check on older relatives, neighbours, young children, and anyone with long-term health conditions to ensure they are staying cool and hydrated.

⚠️ Know the Signs of Heat Exhaustion:
Symptoms can include:
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Excessive sweating
• Feeling sick
• Tiredness or weakness

If symptoms do not improve after cooling down and drinking fluids, seek medical advice.

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and enjoy the sunshine responsibly. ☀️💙
