Carpal tunnel syndrome happens when the median nerve gets squeezed as it passes through the wrist. The tell-tale signs: tingling and numbness in the thumb, index and middle fingers, often worst at night β and that classic urge to shake your hand to get relief. Some people also notice a weaker grip or dropping things.
The good news is it's very treatable. Dr Amir Akhtar (GMC-registered doctor & MSK specialist) assesses and scans the wrist to confirm it's the median nerve, then combines a night splint, activity changes and, where needed, an ultrasound-guided injection into the carpal tunnel β with onward referral if it's severe.
No GP referral needed. Clinics in Burnley & Manchester.
