Every woodland walk reveals something fascinating.
The heart of this tree has been exposed by falling limbs, revealing how life continues in other forms.
Gnarly blackened fungus thrives undisturbed - its appearance linking it to a centuries old legend of King Alfred burning the cakes.
Meanwhile, on a more visible perch, we find familiar golden layers: chicken of the woods.

The Joy of watching Bumblebees ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

Do you smile every time you spy a bumblebee busy among the flowers? ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒผ
Tiny round bodies on delicate legs, picking their way between petals ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ’ฎ
Transparent wings folded neatly behind them.
Gathering golden pockets of bright pollen along the way.
So intent on their task, they seem oblivious of everything else.

Don't you agree, any day feels brighter when you see a bumblebee? ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿ

Pearls of wisdom from the Ojibwe - but what does it mean? ๐Ÿค”

The lines resonate:
A whimsical, slightly melancholic undertone.
A sense of sadness.
A sense of something profound.

These lines speak to everyone who has felt pangs of self pity -
And they seem to somehow rebuke or scold, yet comfort at the same time.
How?

For me, I am reminded that, in the midst of my obsession with self, feeling wounded, upset, I remain a tiny yet essential fragment of the great universe.

I am not insignificant, as some have argued, since I am intrinsically connected with the great sky and wind.

Why then should I feel pity for myself, since I am part of a magnificent whole?

In place of self pity, let me be inspired by the mighty expanse of wind, sky, universe - of which I am a part.

What do these lines mean to you? ๐Ÿค”

Trees.
They never cease to amaze and inspire.
Standing sentry for decades, centuries even, they continue to provide life when their own life seems to have ended.
Their intricate root system entangles with its neighbours through a network of fungi filaments, allowing trees to share nutrients when required.
This oak has clearly stood for hundreds of years, through downpours and gales, snow and sunshine, and its gnarled bark has been stripped away, and its hollow trunk is exposed to the elements...
And yet?
The oak continues to support life, thrusting three substantial branches skyward to form independent trees, festooned with bright green foliage.
Life continues.
The old oak survives despite appearances.

The wonder of trees.
My respect for trees keeps growing.
They enhance life for so many species.
They store carbon dioxide; they produce oxygen; they emit phytoncides.
They provide shelter from wind & rain, shade from summer sun, seasons of fruit.
They are a teeming habitat for insects, birds, mammals, as well as lichen and moss.

And this remarkable tree demonstrates how one tree - ancient, gnarled, virtually gutted - continues to nurture young trees, full of leaf & life, that stretch up branches to the sky.

Our planet is truly remarkable.
Trees are an essential element of our world.

Just in case you missed it ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜‰
Ickworth Park boasts a remarkable number and variety of trees, which makes it a wonderful place to walk in all seasons.
This extraordinary oak has grown here for 700 years ๐Ÿ˜ณ and that makes my mind boggle!
Seven centuries of history have passed while this gentle giant has reached branches up to the sky, scattered autumn leaves, produced countless acorns.
How many creatures have snuggled between its roots to sleep?
How many squirrels have scampered among its branches?
Think of the vigilant owls perching here to hunt.
Imagine the songbirds that have nested in the foliage.
Picture people through the years sitting in its shade.
What a blessing ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

The wonder of trees.
This mighty oak has been growing for 700 years.
Think about that.
It was standing when Edward I was king.
It raised its branches during the turbulent reign of Henry VIII, and continued to spread its shade through the Golden Age of Elizabeth I.
Locals took shelter under its thick canopy during the Civil War years.
Songbirds perched in its leafy limbs while Austen composed Pride & Prejudice, and as Wellington defeated Napoleon at Waterloo.
Through two world wars, this majestic oak has stood firm.
Today, its roots are gnarled and its hollow core is exposed, but its branches still stretch towards the sky; its leaves flutter in the breeze and offer shelter and shade.
A single septuacentennial - a living monument to mighty trees ๐ŸŒณ

Delighted to stumble upon this awesome ๐Ÿ Bee exhibition in Bury St Edmonds Abbey Gardens - created with recycled materials, brightly painted, to depict the honey-making process.
As general interest in bees grows, as youngsters learn about these fascinating creatures, society invests more attention and effort in their welfare. How encouraging to see stories on social media of people rescuing exhausted bees, providing water for thirsty pollinators, choosing to plant flowers to provide nectar, creating wild spaces for nettles, thistles, clover.
Taking care of wildlife, we enhance our world.
Educating the younger generation helps them to make informed choices - to avoid the mistakes of the past.

Stifling summer heat does not stop the bees.
Blossom follows blossom through the season: blue globe thistles are fading fast, so these industrious pollinators are now enticed by intoxicating lavender.

Feel the subtle vibration of their buzzing.
Listen to their insistent humming.
Let the soft sound soothe your nervous system.
