Some patients with osteoarthritis of the knee have only worn out one side of their knee joint. These patients are potential candidates for a partial knee replacment.

Partial knee replacement surgery can be performed as a minmally invasive procedure and replaces only the worn out side of the knee, preserving the rest of the knee joint including the ligaments in the knee. This has the potential to give you a more 'normal' feeling knee compared to a total knee replacement encouraging a better range of movement and potentially enabling a faster return to acitivity.

Matthew discuses his progress at his last follow-up appointment.

Knee Osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition that results in the hard cartilage of the joint surface to wear away. This causes pain, swelling, stiffness; and impacts on quality of life. Surgery may be an option when all other non-surgical treatments have failed.

Knee Osteoarthritis may be caused by previous trauma to the knee joint; as was the case with Robert.
