🌿 What if Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs was never designed with neurodivergent people in mind? 🌿
I spent so much of my life wondering why everyday things felt harder for me than they seemed to for everyone else. I became really good at masking, pushing through and ignoring my own needs because I thought that’s what I was supposed to do. 💭
Receiving my AuDHD diagnosis didn’t change who I am, but it gave me permission to stop fighting myself. 💚
When I looked back at Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, I realised something…
For many neurodivergent people, our needs don’t always fit neatly into a pyramid. 🧩
✨ Sometimes sensory safety comes before social connection.
🤝 Sometimes belonging means finding people who accept the real you, not the masked version.
🌱 Sometimes self-esteem begins with understanding yourself instead of trying to fit into a world that wasn’t designed with your brain in mind.
This visual reflects the perspective I wish I’d had years ago. The support I really needed wasn’t someone telling me to “just cope better” it was someone helping me understand myself with kindness, curiosity and compassion. ❤️
That’s why I’m choosing not to let fear stop me from following my dream of opening my own private practice. 🌸 (watch this space)
Because if you’re late diagnosed… I see you.
I see the years spent wondering why everything felt so much harder.
I see the mask you wore just to get through the day.
I see the pressure to meet expectations that were never designed for the way your brain works.
And I hope that, through my work, I can offer the understanding and acceptance that I needed myself.
You don’t have to earn your worth by fitting in.
You deserve to feel safe enough to be yourself. 💚
If this post helps just one person feel a little more understood, then it’s done exactly what I hoped it would. 🫶
