Building Body Awareness 💛
Friday lunchtime is Connor time.
One of the biggest changes I’ve seen in Connor over the last 12 months is his growing proprioception. That’s our body’s ability to sense where it is in space and how it’s moving, without needing to look. It’s a skill you probably take for granted (I know I do) but it plays a huge role in balance, coordination, confidence and feeling at home in our bodies.
Through our sessions, Connor has developed so much more awareness of his body and how it moves. It’s been one of my biggest joys to watch him become increasingly relaxed, confident and comfortable in his own body - approaching movement with curiosity and confidence - this is what yoga is all about for me!
Connor is a young man with a learning disability, autism, CTD (Creatine Transporter Deficiency) and ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder). He’s non conversational, which means he has limited words, but he communicates a lot!
Every achievement takes time, patience and really importantly for Connor, is celebrated, which makes moments like these all the more special.
What I love most though, is the energy he brings. Connor has the warmest sense of humour and a real talent for finding fun in everything we do. Every session is filled with laughter, connection and the occasional unexpected tickle from him!
A few snapshots from today’s adventures 💛
And yes, I did rock out my flamingo leggings today in protest at the days of uninterrupted rain - and it worked! Welcome back sunshine ☀️
You’re welcome.
Happy Friday,
Debs
