This message is exactly why these three hip tests matter.
When this patient came to see me, I suspected her hip needed further investigation before we did anything else.
These simple tests don’t diagnose the problem.
But they can help identify when hip pain needs a closer look.

The three tests:
• FABER – pain or major side-to-side differences may indicate the hip or SI region needs further assessment.
• Hip Internal Rotation – painful or restricted movement is commonly seen in people with hip osteoarthritis.
• FADIR – reproduction of groin pain may indicate intra-articular hip involvement.
Research suggests reduced hip internal rotation is one of the earliest movement changes associated with hip osteoarthritis, while FABER and FADIR can be useful components of a comprehensive hip assessment (Poultsides et al., 2022; Reiman et al., 2023).
A positive test isn’t a diagnosis.
But if multiple tests reproduce your familiar symptoms, it’s worth getting assessed by a healthcare professional.
That’s exactly what this patient did.
