Funerals have changed so much over the years, and more and more people are choosing to make their farewell a reflection of who they are and the life they've lived.

Some people would like everyone to wear bright colours instead of black.
Some have a special song they'd love to be played.
Others choose a unique coffin, a favourite flower, or even ask for a toast to be raised in their memory.

There are no right or wrong choices when it comes to a funeral – the most meaningful farewells are often the ones that truly tell a person's story.

So, we'd love to know…

Have you ever thought about your own funeral wishes?
Would you like a particular song played? A certain colour to be worn? A horse-drawn carriage, a colourful coffin, or perhaps something completely different?

If you're comfortable sharing, tell us in the comments below. Your ideas may even inspire others to start conversations with their own loved ones.

Because talking about our wishes today can make all the difference tomorrow.

Did you know we're dog friendly? 🐾

Here at our funeral home, we know that dogs are part of the family too. Whether you're visiting us to arrange a funeral, spend time with a loved one in our Chapel of Rest, or simply popping in, your four-legged companions are always welcome.

Meet Chester, Ashleigh's lovable dog! He often comes to work with her, although it's fair to say office life isn't quite his calling. He much prefers a snooze on the sofa or a cuddle with his grandad at lunchtime! If you're lucky, you might even see him during your visit.

We understand that having a familiar face (or wagging tail!) by your side can bring comfort when you need it most, and we're always happy to welcome every member of your family.

We'd love to meet your furry friends too! Share a photo of your pets in the comments below and tell us their name – we can't wait to see them!

Meet Ashleigh πŸ‘‹πŸΌ

Many of you may already know Ashleigh, one of our Directors and our Office Manager. Ashleigh is also the daughter of our Managing Director Tony, and is proud to be part of the family business.

Although she prefers to stay behind the scenes, Ashleigh is one of the driving forces behind our funeral home. It’s no exaggeration to say that much of what happens each day simply wouldn’t run as smoothly without her.

Ashleigh is usually the friendly voice you’ll hear when you call us during office hours. She keeps the office running efficiently, manages all of our social media, designs our adverts, brochures, leaflets and much more, carefully chooses the music you hear throughout our funeral home and Chapels of Rest, and is the person we all turn to whenever there’s a technical problem - it’s well known in the office that the printer only likes Ashleigh! She also looks after our payroll, making sure we all get paid at the end of every week! Whatever needs doing, Ashleigh is always willing to help.

She also supports our mortuary team whenever needed, helping to ensure every person in our care is looked after with the utmost respect, compassion and dignity.

You may also have seen Ashleigh at funeral services, where she welcomes and assists those attending when taking names -she really enjoys meeting members of our community.

When she’s not at work, Ashleigh enjoys evening walks with her dog especially if there’s a pub at the end! She also loves spending time in Scotland with her husband and cockapoo Chester, attending music gigs, curling up with a good book, and baking cakes and cookies!

While many of Ashleigh’s contributions happen quietly in the background, they make an enormous difference to our business every single day. Her dedication, creativity, kindness and willingness to help wherever she’s needed make her an invaluable member of our team, and we honestly couldn’t do what we do without her.

If you see Ashleigh out and about, be sure to say hello!

We are often asked why, as Funeral Directors, we don't deliver gifts or treats to care homes, hospitals, and hospices on occasions such as Mother's Day, Father's Day, or Christmas.

The answer is actually very simple.

As Funeral Directors, providing gifts to care facilities can be viewed as an incentive or an attempt to influence referrals. For that reason, we choose not to give gifts to care homes, hospitals, or hospices.

We firmly believe that choosing a Funeral Director is a decision that belongs entirely to the family. It should be based on their own research and personal choice, allowing them to make an informed decision about who they trust to care for their loved one.

Our priority has always been, and always will be, to support families and our community with compassion, integrity, and without influence.

At W.S Ingham & Son Ltd, we are proud to be a truly independent, family-run funeral directors.

Ingham isn't just a name. It isn't simply the name above our door. It's our family.
We are incredibly proud to have three generations of the Ingham family working together to care for the families who place their trust in us.

Pat, at 83 years young, still answers every out-of-hours call with the same kindness and compassion she always has. To our families, she's a comforting voice on the end of the phone. To us, she's Mum and Grandma (or Memar as Ashleigh calls her) – the heart and soul of our business.

Then there's Tony, our Managing Director and Funeral Director – the driving force behind our company and a man who truly wears many hats. From arranging and conducting funerals to cleaning our premises and ensuring our funeral home remains fresh and welcoming, Tony's dedication is at the heart of everything we do. He works tirelessly behind the scenes making the important decisions that help make W.S Ingham & Son Ltd the special place it is today.

And finally, Ashleigh, our Company Director and Office Manager. Often working quietly behind the scenes, she pours her heart into every detail – from the music handpicked by her that gently plays in our reception and chapels of rest, to designing the brochures, adverts, leaflets and notices. Ashleigh is also our social media expert, in house tech support, and the one that makes sure we all get paid at the end of the week!

We don't see ourselves as just funeral directors.

We are a family, caring for other families.

When you come to us, you aren't passed from person to person or treated like a number. You are welcomed, listened to and cared for by the same familiar faces from the very beginning to the very end.

Every family that walks through our doors becomes part of our story, and we are truly honoured to be trusted with such an important responsibility.

If we have been there for your family, whether recently or many years ago, we would love to hear your memories in the comments below. Your kind words and stories mean more to us than you'll ever know🀍

Our family, here for your family.

Meet Shaun πŸ‘‹

Shaun is our full-time Funeral Service Operative and very much our right-hand man.

On a day-to-day basis, you'll find Shaun taking great pride in caring for our fleet of Jaguar vehicles, ensuring they are washed, polished, and presented to the highest standard.

Shaun also looks after everything within our mortuary, ensuring that those in our care are treated with the utmost professionalism, sensitivity, and compassion at all times.

You will often see Shaun driving the hearse on funeral services and carrying out the important duty of bearing coffins, supporting families with dignity and respect throughout their loved one's final journey.

Although much of Shaun's role takes place behind the scenes, he is an essential part of our business, and quite simply, without him, we'd be lost. His dedication, hard work, and unwavering support help ensure that every family receives the highest standard of care.

Outside of work, Shaun enjoys spending quality time with his family, taking his dog for long walks, and heading out on long drives.

If you see Shaun out and about, be sure to say hello!

Thank you, Shaun, for everything you do and for being such an invaluable member of our team.

πŸ“£A little message from our Director and Office Manager, Ashleigh.

As we come to the end of an exceptionally warm week, I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during the recent heatwave.

It's certainly been a challenge being out and about in full uniform when we'd all much rather have been in flip-flops and shorts!

More importantly, I want to say a huge thank you to Tony, James, Shaun, and the rest of our incredible team. Despite office temperatures reaching a staggering 35Β°C (and perhaps a few complaints about the heat along the way!), they have continued to work tirelessly and provide the families we serve and our local community with the highest standard of care and support.

You have all been absolutely amazing this week, and I couldn't be prouder of the dedication, compassion, and hard work you've shown.

If you've seen our team out and about this week, or if they've helped you or your family in any way, we'd love to hear from you. Please feel free to leave a message in the comments and help us show them just how appreciated they are – they truly deserve it.

Thank you all 🀍

As the temperatures continue to rise, please spare a thought for our funeral directors and funeral staff who are out and about, carrying out their duties in full uniform.

The heat can make these conditions uncomfortable, but our commitment to providing the highest level of care and service to the families we support never changes.

Our limousines are fully air-conditioned to ensure comfort for both our drivers and the families travelling with us.

For burial services, where our staff may be working in full sun for extended periods, our funeral team will be wearing shirts and waistcoats instead of their full funeral jackets. This allows us to provide safe and comfortable working conditions for our staff while maintaining the professional standards our families expect.

Not all heroes wear capesβ€”some wear suits and continue serving their community with dignity, compassion and professionalism, even during a heatwave.

🌑️ Important Notice – Extreme Temperatures

Due to the extreme heat forecast over the coming days, we would like to make families and visitors aware that our office can become particularly warm, and temperatures are expected to rise further during the current heatwave.

If you struggle with hot weather, we kindly ask that you only make essential trips to the office where possible.

To help keep everyone comfortable, our funeral directors will be wearing a slightly more relaxed uniform whilst in the office, and water will be readily available during arrangement appointments for both families and our team members.

If you are unable to visit us in person, please call 01623 621114, where a member of our team will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for your understanding, and please take care during the hot weather.
