No one in the funeral industry is against direct cremations. For many, they are exactly the right choice and provide a simple, dignified farewell.

What many of us do object to though, is misleading advertising. Families deserve clear, honest information when making such important decisions.

If your wish is a direct cremation, for yourself or a loved one, please speak to your local funeral director first who can explain the direct cremation services available in your area.

Funeral decisions are too important to be based on marketing alone. They should be based on understanding, trust and what is right for you and your family.

A direct cremation doesn't have to mean no goodbye.

Many families are now choosing direct cremation for practical or personal reasons, but that doesn't mean there can't still be a meaningful opportunity to gather and celebrate a loved one's life.

A memorial service can take place days, weeks, or even months later, giving family and friends the time and space to come together without the pressures of a funeral timetable.

Whether it's held in a village hall, hotel, pub, garden, or another special place, I can help create a service that reflects the person being remembered and the memories they leave behind.

There is no right or wrong way to say goodbye, only the way that feels right for you.

After a wonderful break, enjoying some much-needed sunshine and relaxation, I'm now back home feeling rested, refreshed and ready to continue creating meaningful and personal ceremonies for the families I have the privilege of supporting.

A huge thank you to the funeral directors who got in touch while I was away. Your continued trust and support means so much, and it's lovely to come home knowing I already have the opportunity to help more families in the weeks ahead.

Now it's time to unpack the suitcase, put the washing on, and swap holiday mode for celebrant mode! I look forward to working with you all soon. 🤍

☀️ Holiday mode: ON!

I'm heading off today and looking forward to some much-needed sun, sea and relaxation.

To the wonderful funeral directors I have the privilege of working alongside, please know that I can still be contacted while I'm away to accept bookings for services taking place after 9th June, so please don't hesitate to get in touch.

For now, though, I'm taking a little break to recharge the batteries and spend some time away.

See you all when I'm back! 😊

In my role as a celebrant, careful timing and planning are a really important part of what I do, not just for the family I’m supporting, but out of respect for crematorium staff and the funeral directors I work alongside.

Very occasionally, despite best efforts and clear guidance, a service can run over. Today was one of those rare moments.

With so much love to share, tributes from family and friends, and a time of Buddhist prayer, the service had needed just a little more space.

In those situations, my role is to remain calm, supportive, and respectful to everyone involved, ensuring the family don't feel rushed, while working closely with professionals around me to bring things to a dignified close.

Because while structure matters, so does compassion, and it’s my job to balance both.

Today’s service was a truly beautiful tribute, with a very yellow theme 💛

Fred and Joen, the two striking black horses from Townies Carriages, led the way, adorned with elegant yellow plumes.

That same theme continued throughout the service, with family and friends wearing touches of yellow and a stunning coffin spray filled with vibrant yellow flowers. Even the chapel screens reflected the theme, with a single yellow rose displayed.

My thanks to Turner & Son Funeral Directors for their care and professionalism throughout.

And a special mention to Stanton, the chapel attendant, who, as always, ensured everything ran smoothly and with great care. With his final day at Fenland crematorium this Friday, he will be greatly missed. His attentiveness, calm presence and meticulous care for every family and every service never goes unnoticed.

It was an honour to lead such a personal and thoughtful farewell 💛

🌿 Easter Sunday.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a particularly religious person, but I do think it’s important to pause and reflect on what this time of year represents.

At its heart, Easter is about hope, renewal and new life.

And especially after my recent post, that feels more meaningful than ever.

In the work I do, I see first-hand how heavy loss can feel, how it can change everything. But I also see, in time, moments of light, healing, and new beginnings finding their way through.

For me, that’s what Easter represents.

It reminds us that even after the darkest times, there can still be new life, new joy, and moments of happiness again.

Wishing you all a peaceful and hopeful Easter 🤍

🍼 With the kind permission of the parents, I want to share a moment from today 💙

This morning I received some really special news.

Some time ago, I supported a young couple through the loss of not one, but two babies. It was a situation that stayed with me, because it felt so unbelievably unfair, and so incredibly sad.

This morning, I was told that they had recently welcomed a beautiful baby boy into the world.

And by the strangest twist of timing, I had just finished a service in Huntingdon when I realised they were nearby.

I was able to go and see them, to sit and talk, and to have a cuddle with their beautiful little boy. 🥰

It’s hard to put into words what that moment felt like but my eyes were filled with happy tears.

To have been with them in such heartbreaking times, and then to see them now, with their healthy baby boy… it was just so special.

I'm sure that I speak for myself, Carol Goodwin and the ladies at Central Co-op Funerals, when I say that we are over the moon for this wonderful couple and we wish them all the happiness in the world. 🩷🩵💙

Hello, I thought it might be time to reintroduce myself.

I’m Melissa, the face behind Melissa Jane Ceremonies.

I work with families to create personal, meaningful funeral services. Ones that truly reflect the person they love and the life they lived.

People often ask me how I do this work and the truth is, it’s not about having the perfect words. It’s about listening, about understanding what made someone them, and about helping families find a way to say goodbye that feels right.

It’s a real privilege to be trusted with that, and something I never take for granted.

If we haven’t met before, you’re very welcome here 🤍

I spent time today with a lady who spoke so lovingly about her husband.

She told me that in their marriage, they had reached their own little piece of heaven… that together they had created what she called a “bubble of happiness”.

She described him as intelligent, strong and deeply loving, someone who meant everything to her and to their son… but also someone with a shy nature and a cheeky side that made her smile.

We talked about their journey too, from building their life together in Romania to making a home here in the UK.

We sat chatting and laughing together like 2 friends, it’s so lovely to hear these stories, to be welcomed into people's homes and for them to talk to me so openly ☺️
