🟣Do you get back pain when standing for a long time?Try this quick fix🟣

When you are standing for a long period of time, it’s really common to start slouching and letting the pelvis push forwards. This causes the lower back to arch more and all the joints in the lumbar spine become closer together and get compressed which can then start to ache.
Titling the pelvis the other way by squeezing the glutes can help to reduce the ache in the moment because it allows the lower back to flatten out a little bit and reduce the pressure going through the vertebral joints. Hold the squeeze for five seconds, relax and do it a few more times or as many times as you wish to.

🟣People always ask ‘is my job causing my back pain?🟣

Short answer- ‘yes it could be’

Long answer- ‘there’s there’s lots of factors that affect lower back pain and your job is just one of them. Now I don’t mean that your job is causing your back pain so you need to go and quit your job and do something else. No, that’s not what I’m saying. What you need to do instead is look at what you do within your job and see if there are ways that you can improve how you do it. Things to look out for are the following-

💥 sitting or standing in one position for a long period of time.
💥 doing lots of heavy lifting, especially if there is testing involved
💥 doing lots of driving as part of your job so again being sat in one position for long periods of time.
💥 if your job is causing you stress.

Check back for future videos where I’ll be covering some of the ways that you can combat these things.

🟣Fact or Fiction- Good posture = no pain🟣

Unfortunately, this is fiction. Having good posture does not mean that you are going to have a no pain particularly if you sit or stand in the same place for eight hours plus a day without moving. Your body is designed to move and this is more important than having a good posture. if you find you have been sat or stood in the same place for half an hour change how you are sitting or standing, have a break, go for a walk. Just generally change your position in someway.

Have a think about your daily routine and then let me know how long you spend stood or sat in one place without changing your position. Maybe you could set a reminder on your phone every half hour or so to change your position. Your body will thank you for it.

🟣How long should my back pain last for?🟣

This is another common question that I get asked all of the time, but again it’s one of those things that will depend upon several different factors.
Things like
✨whether or not you rest straight after the injury
✨ whether or not you get back moving again afterwards or
✨whether there’s any things that you are doing that keep re-aggravating the problem

All will affect how long your pain will last for. So this video is a very general, rough guide. For a more detailed analysis of your problem and a better guide as to how long it will last I will always recommend that you go and see someone who can help you to do just that.

🟣Which is better for my back pain? Heat or Ice?🟣

This is something I get asked a lot both in practice and outside of clinic too. But, unfortunately I can’t tell you that without asking you a whole load of questions about your problem because the answer depends on several factors.
If you’re not sure which to try then come and see me and we can figure it out together. And if you do that I’ll do a whole load of hands on work too while you’re here which will help more that the heat or ice alone 😀

🟣My favourite resistance band exercise to help prevent lower back pain🟣

Deadlifts are generally great for helping to prevent back pain because they will strengthen all of the muscles at the back of the lower body. The resistance band deadlift is just a little bit easier for people who haven’t done any form of dead lifting before, for those who are less able to access a gym, and for those who are unsure about working with weights.

🟣How I Use a Foam Roller to Help With My Lower Back Pain🟣

Foam rolling is a great way to release tight muscles that can contribute to bodily pain. With lower back the two strips of muscle either the side of the spine can become tight and sore. Foam rolling these muscles can help to reduce lower back pain and if done when no pain is present it can help to prevent pain in the back from starting.

🟣2 places to use a massage ball that can help you to manage lower back pain🟣

These are two areas that if I have pain in my lower back, I like to use my massage ball to help deal with the discomfort.

💥 QL muscle- just to th side of the spine
💥 Glutes

for me, this helps quite a lot and allows me to manage my pain until I can see someone to help further.
