🌸 Holiday at Home – Supporting Carers

We were delighted to be part of Holiday at Home, organised by Churches Together, bringing seniors together for a week of activities, entertainment and social connection.

Alex Bast-Boverhoff, Managing Director of Bridgewater Home Care, shared his personal experience of seeing his Grandad receive 15-minute care visits after several strokes, while his grandmother devoted herself to caring for him 24/7 — without anyone asking “How are you?”

Alex highlighted how regular respite can give carers time to recharge, enjoy a coffee with a friend, go shopping or simply have some time for themselves — while their loved one receives meaningful companionship and support at home.

He encouraged everyone to plan ahead rather than waiting for a crisis, and to understand the care and support available in their local community.

The talk prompted some great questions and conversations about financial support, disability, male carers and the future of care. One message was clear: the relationship between the carer and the person being cared for is incredibly important.
