For those who don't know, LOROS have recently introduced drop-in sessions at their new Bereavement Hubs, that aim to provide those who are bereaved with a place where they can access information, talk to others and share their thoughts and feelings.

There are various locations across Leicestershire and Rutland, including a hub in Market Harborough. They are available to anyone over 18 who has experienced a loss, regardless of the cause.

There is no need for an appointment - you are welcome to attend any chosen session at the available dates and times. The hubs take place weekly on the same day and time and are supported by trained bereavement volunteers.

Market Harborough
The Bowdens Charity, 10 Fairfield Road, LE16 9QQ
Second and fourth Monday of each month from 10am-11.30am

For a full list of available locations and sessions, you can visit the LOROS website here:

When someone close to us dies it can be the most painful experience. If you are struggling and need someone to talk to, LOROS is here to support you.

There is a quiet power in being present.
Did you know that 79% of people find attending a funeral essential for acknowledging their loss?
We pride ourselves on holding a space for you to
say a real, heartfelt goodbye that feels right for you.
Whether that’s through a favourite song, a shared story, a football team, or even a much-needed moment of laughter.

He made it! 🎉

Jonathan has now raised over £4,200 for LOROS after successfully completing his incredible challenge — walking the 96-mile West Highland Way solo, wild camping along the route, and finishing with a summit of Ben Nevis. 🏔️

He was spurred on every step of the way by the many messages of support and generous donations received.

Jonathan said:
"The weather was on my side, with a few wet days and some very cold nights, but it was mainly dry and clear. The support from the community has made the whole experience fantastic. Thank you to all those who have donated and encouraged me along the way."

Jonathan is gearing up to take on the incredible West Highland Way Challenge this weekend! 🏔️

He’ll be trekking and wild camping solo for 96 miles over 7 days — and if that wasn’t enough, he’ll be finishing by climbing Ben Nevis! An ambitious (and slightly bonkers!) challenge, all in support of LOROS and the vital care they provide to so many people across our community during the most difficult times.

Jon has already raised an amazing £2,700, but every extra donation makes a real difference and would be hugely appreciated 💙

Please join us in wishing Jon the very best of luck! The Highlands are looking a little chilly this week — hope those thermals are packed! 🥶❄️

West Highland Way Challenge

96 Miles | 7 Days | Wild Camping | Solo | Carrying Everything
…and if my legs will let me — a summit of Ben Nevis.

I leave Market Harborough Station on the evening of Friday 17th April, heading for London. A short walk from St Pancras to Euston will take me to the Caledonian Sleeper, due to arrive in Glasgow at 07:30 the next morning.

Then the real journey begins…

The official start of the West Highland Way is just north of Glasgow in the town of Milngavie.

From there I’ll have 96 miles ahead of me — 7 days of trekking and wild camping — finishing in Fort William.

The route offers tremendous variety, beginning in the pastoral landscapes beneath the Campsies, winding along the beautiful shores of Loch Lomond, and then into the increasingly rugged and dramatic Highlands. It crosses the vast expanse of Rannoch Moor, offers glimpses into Glencoe, and continues past Loch Leven, before finally reaching Fort William via the stunning Glen Nevis.

Along the way I’ll be walking a mixture of old military roads, loch-side paths, forest tracks and steep mountain trails.

Accommodation each night will be a tent somewhere beside the trail. I’ll be carrying everything I need on my back and picking up food supplies along the way where possible.

When I reach Fort William, if I still have enough strength left, I’m hoping to summit Ben Nevis — the highest mountain in Great Britain — before catching the sleeper train home.

So why do it?

Well… I haven’t done a serious trek in nearly 30 years, and at 55 this might be my last opportunity before the knees finally decide they’ve had enough (the left one already has its doubts!).

It will be a real challenge — physically and mentally — but hopefully I’ll see some incredible scenery along the way.

It also gives me the opportunity to raise some much-needed funds for LOROS Hospice.
LOROS is a local hospice caring for people in our community. They provide free, high-quality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill patients, as well as their families and carers.

Their services include specialist care for those living with a terminal illness when a cure is no longer possible, a short-stay inpatient ward for end-of-life care, outreach support in patients’ homes from Clinical Nurse Specialists, day therapy, and bereavement counselling.

They support people through some of the most difficult times in their lives and are a truly valued resource in our community. LOROS needs to raise over £9 million every year just to keep their services running.
Every pound really does make a difference, so if you’re able to donate, please give whatever you can. Thank you so much for your support.

We made it - on a very foggy and misty Sunday in the Peak District!

All four of the team - myself, Guy Mercer, Dave Harley and Neil Stacey completed the 11.8 mile route on Sunday as planned. There wasn’t much of a view from the tops (!) but Padley Woods was nice and the meal after at The Fox House pub was even better!

11.8 Miles with 1645 ft of elevation and decent.

Thanks to all those who have donated to such a good cause, it made the uphill slogs that little bit easier! You have raised £535 so far! Thank you 🙂
