As I stepped out of the car, a rustle in the bushes caught my attention, and out popped a lovely little squirrel 🐿️. Hi everyone,

Another week has flown by! It’s been a particularly busy time at the funeral home, but I'm thankful to say that every service went smoothly and safely as we honored the lives of those entrusted to us.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the families who choose our services and put their trust in us during such difficult times. Without your support, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do.
A huge thank you as well to my incredible team your dedication, care, and commitment are truly second to none.

Recent news from Hull has understandably raised concerns about the care and standards families should expect from a funeral director. We ourselves are shocked and saddened that this has happened to these families.

At Measham Family Funeral Service we are proud to be a National Society of Allied & Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) member and part of a community of independent funeral directors committed to professional and compassionate care.

We are regularly inspected and voluntarily regulated under the UK Funeral Director Code. Families also have access to an independent complaints process through SAIF, delivered by an externally audited and Chartered Trading Standards Institute-certified body.

We hope these safeguards offer added reassurance that families and their loved ones will be treated with care, dignity and respect.

Moments like this are a heartbreaking reminder of how delicate life is. We are deeply honored to support her family through this difficult journey, ensuring she is cared for with the utmost gentle love, dignity, and respect.

Little Snowdrop
The world may never notice
If a snowdrop doesn't bloom,
Or even pause to wonder
If the petals fall too soon.
But every life that ever forms,
Or ever comes to be,
Touches the world in some small way
For all eternity.
The little one longed for
Was swiftly here and gone.

This morning, Jenny and I accompanied a much loved lady to Lichfield and District Crematorium for her private cremation.
The drive along the country roads was filled with peaceful wildlife, and the gentle sound of birdsong greeted us as we arrived.
We sat in quiet reflection to honor her memory

It is with a heavy heart the family announce the passing of
Neil John Bailey,of Appleby Magna. Neil sadly passed away at Loros Hospice on 18th July 2026 aged 50 years.

He will be very sadly missed by all family & many friends.
Neil’s funeral service will take place Tuesday 18th August 12 Noon at Bretby Crematorium in the Cedar Serice Room.

Family flowers only please, donations in memory of Neil if desired will benefit Loros Hospice.

In light of the recent news and court proceedings regarding Legacy Independent Funeral Directors, we understand that families in our community may feel unsettled or concerned.
We want to offer our total reassurance to everyone who entrusts their loved ones into our care. As proud members of the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF), we operate strictly under a stringent Code of Practice and are subject to regular, thorough independent inspections.
What has come to light regarding Legacy is horrific and beyond comprehension. Our hearts go out to every single family affected by these tragic events, we cannot imagine the pain they are experiencing. Our deepest thoughts are with them during this difficult week, and we truly hope justice is served.

We want to reassure you that when a loved one comes into our care, they are treated with the utmost dignity, respect, and tenderness. Your loved one remains with us under our direct personal care at our premises until the day of the funeral they are never moved anywhere else to rest.
If you ever have any questions about how we operate, our facilities, or SAIF standards, our doors are always open.

Today, Sally and the team were at Bretby Crematorium for a beautiful service honoring a very special, deeply loved lady. The sun shone down on a magnificent lily casket spray created by Ali at Berry Fields, and our celebrant shared some truly moving words.

Looking after Sharon and Andrew has been an absolute privilege. Through all the emotions, there was always a warm smile and a shared laugh between the tears.

Sharon is a wonderful person. She was joking about the unique, personalized services we’ve done in the past and teased Sally about wearing a bikini! That got my mind working so I hunted down a badge on Etsy featuring Mr. Benn in his bowler hat, black shoes, and a bikini. I promised Sharon I’d wear a bikini to the service, and I kept my word... even if it was technically Mr. Benn!!!!

My thoughts and heartfelt wishes are with Andrew, Sharon, and their family at this time. xx

A gentle reminder for local parents & families

As the summer holidays get under way, we want to let you know that our premises is a designated safe space for local children. If your child ever feels unsafe, gets lost, or runs into trouble while out and about, they are always welcome to pop in.

We can provide a quiet place to sit, refreshments, access to a phone, and a safe environment while we contact a parent or guardian.

Our team is DBS checked and first aid trained, and staff are available during regular office hours.
