Spotlight on Vitamin D
The NHS recommends that everyone should supplement their diet with 400iu vitamin D per day during the winter months. We make vitamin D when our skin is exposed to UVB, but between the months of mid-autumn to mid-spring there are very few UVB rays (unless you are lucky enough to jet off for some winter sun!)
Vitamin D plays many vital roles within the body, and the skin. Deficiencies are linked to inflammatory skin conditions including eczema and psoriasis. Vit D helps us to absorb vitamin A more easily which is important for skin health and anti-ageing. When levels of vitamin A and D are optimal our cells function much better and it is easier to keep skin healthy.
