More families are starting to talk about funeral wishes earlier. Not in a formal way, just small, quiet conversations about what they would or wouldn't want.

Those conversations can make a real difference later on, and funeral directors are often the people best placed to help families take that next step.

We work with funeral directors to support that, by making it easier to introduce funeral plans in a way that feels natural and helpful to families.

As an appointed representative of Westerleigh Funeral Plans, you can offer a straightforward way for families to plan ahead. And with a guaranteed cremation at any Westerleigh site, they can be reassured that everything is taken care of, with a service close to home.

If you’d like to see how it could work for you, we’re here to talk.

That’s a wrap! What an incredible few days at the National Funeral Exhibition.

It’s been a privilege to meet so many people from across the profession, share conversations and showcase the work happening across Westerleigh Group.

Thank you to everyone who visited our stand, took the time to speak with the team and participated in our survey. If you completed the survey on Friday or Saturday, keep your eyes peeled for the winner announcements on Monday.

We’re leaving the event feeling inspired, energised (and a little tired at the same time) and grateful to be part of such a dedicated and compassionate sector.

Day two at the National Funeral Exhibition has brought another fantastic mix of conversations, connections and ideas.

There’s been a real sense of openness throughout the event, from discussing how the sector is evolving to exploring how we continue to improve the experiences we provide for families and communities.

If you didn’t get a chance to attend our speaker session on Westerleigh Group’s research into people’s preferences for funerals, it will be running again tomorrow from 10:30am–11am in the lecture theatre in Hall 1.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to stop by our stand so far. If you haven’t visited yet, we’re here for one more day.

Visit us in Hall 1, stand 122.

Round up of Day 1 at the NFE…

We saw lots of visitors to our stand yesterday and had some really valuable conversations about our sector. It’s been great to hear different perspectives and share more about the work happening across Westerleigh Group.

One of the highlights so far has been welcoming people into our survey space and hearing direct feedback from colleagues across the industry.

We are pleased to announce that the NFE Day 1 winner of the £500 donation to a charity of their choice is Phillip Tom and Sons who have chosen Maggie's Centres in Cardiff.

If you’re visiting NFE today, don’t miss our speaker session on ‘Westerleigh Group’s research into people’s preferences for funerals’, taking place from 11:30am – 12pm in the lecture theatre in Hall 1.

Looking forward to connecting with many more visitors today. Find us in Hall 1, Stand 122.

Today, we pause for a moment of quiet reflection.

Looking out towards the Eildon Hills, a landscape so familiar to so many of us, we remember the courage and sacrifice of those who took part in the D-Day landings on 6 June 1944.

The poppies remind us of lives given, and of the families, both then and now, who carry that loss. Even in peaceful places like this, their legacy is never far from our thoughts.

At Borders, we honour their memory and all those who have served, with gratitude and respect.

We will remember them.

Today at Borders, we’re proud to recognise World Environment Day and reflect on the small but important ways we help protect the world around us.

Our cremator is fully abated, which means it is fitted with advanced filtration technology. This system carefully removes harmful emissions, including mercury and particulates, from the gases released during the cremation process.

By doing this, we:
- Reduce our impact on air quality
- Help protect the local environment
- Support cleaner, safer surroundings for our community

While our role is to provide respectful and dignified services, we’re equally committed to operating in a way that is mindful of the planet we all share.

Every step forward, big or small, helps make a difference. 💚

In our latest episode of Before You Go, our bereavement podcast, we sit down with Kirsty Simmonds, National Sector Lead at Connect2FuneralServices (Connect2Care) to explore how training and apprenticeships are shaping the future of funeral care.

Kirsty shares her journey into the bereavement sector and challenges some of the common misconceptions around apprenticeships. We also discuss how structured professional development is helping funeral businesses build teams that are not only skilled, but confident and compassionate in supporting families at their most difficult moments.

This is a thoughtful and honest conversation about people, purpose, and what it really means to prepare the next generation of funeral professionals.

We were delighted to welcome funeral professionals from across Scotland to East Lothian Crematorium & Memorial Gardens on Saturday for the NAFD Scotland Education Day.

The event brought together colleagues from across the funeral profession to share knowledge, explore developments within the industry and discuss the future of funeral and bereavement services.

We are always pleased to support our industry colleagues by hosting events that bring people together, and it was fantastic to see so many attendees engaging with the programme and contributing to meaningful conversations throughout the day.

Thank you to the National Association of Funeral Directors, the speakers and everyone who attended for making the day such a success.

Today is World Bee Day, a chance to celebrate the amazing little insects that do such a big job for our environment 💛

Here at Borders Crematorium, we’re proud to have bee hives within our grounds, helping to support local bees and wildlife. Our gardens and green spaces provide a calm place for nature to thrive and we love spotting the bees busy at work among the flowers.

“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.” John Muir

By caring for the natural world around us, we help ensure bees remain part of the quiet rhythms of life.
