🍎🌳 APPLE DAY IS BACK! 🌳🍎

We’re so excited to announce that our Apple Day is returning to Mayfields Woodland Burial Ground! 🍏🐝

📅 Sunday 27th September
⏰ 10am - 4pm

Come along and enjoy a lovely day in our beautiful woodland setting, with lots to see and do:

🍎 Apple pressing & juice tasting
🧃 Bring your spare apples and a clean bottle
🥧 Delicious apple bakes
🌿 Local stalls and green projects
👧 Children’s activities
🍏 Pick apples and learn about cider making
🐝 Plenty of family fun!

🌈 Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day | 28th August 🌈

Today, we pause to remember the beloved pets who have left paw prints on our hearts and crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

At Mayfields Woodland Burial Ground's Furever Loved Pet Memorial garden, we understand that the bond between people and their pets is truly special. Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day is an opportunity to celebrate the love, companionship, and precious memories shared with those faithful friends who are no longer by our side.

Whether you light a candle, visit a memorial or simply take a quiet moment to reflect, we invite you to join us in honouring the pets who brought so much joy, comfort, and unconditional love to our lives.

💗 BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT & DEATH CAFE AT JOY

If you or someone you know is experiencing bereavement, two supportive monthly groups are starting at Joy in Birkenhead, offering a safe and welcoming space to talk, connect and explore grief.

🌸 Family Bereavement Group - Ages 11-16

A welcoming and supportive group for families with children aged 11-16, helping young people explore grief through hands-on activities, creativity and shared conversation.

📅 First session: Wednesday 2nd September
⏰ 4.30pm-5.30pm
📍 Joy, Birkenhead

The group will then run once a month on a Wednesday at the same time.

☕ Death Cafe- Adults

A relaxed, safe space for adults to talk openly about death, dying and grief, providing an opportunity to have conversations that can often feel difficult or avoided.

There is no judgement and no pressure, just an understanding space to talk, listen and share. There will also often be a creative activity during each session.

📅 Next Death Cafe: Monday 7th September
⏰ 6.00pm-8.30pm
📍 Joy, Birkenhead

The Death Cafe takes place on the first Monday of every month.

🐾💚 A Funeral That Was Personal to Them

We had some very special four-legged guests at a funeral here at Mayfields. 🐶🌿

For this family, having their dogs there to say goodbye was an important part of making the day feel truly personal and right for them.

A funeral doesn't have to look a certain way. It can be shaped around the person who has died, their family, their wishes and the things that mattered most to them.

And did you know... you can have your dog at a funeral at Mayfields too? 🐾

For many people, our pets are part of the family and it can be incredibly comforting to have them there when saying goodbye.

We understand that everyone is different, and we're always happy to talk through the options and see how we can help make a farewell as personal and meaningful as possible.

Because sometimes, it's the little things that make a goodbye truly special. 💚🌿🐾

Remembering Moira McLaughlin

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Moira McLaughlin, aged 77, who dedicated so much of her life to serving the people of Wirral.

She was elected as councillor in 1996 and was Mayor of Wirral from 2011 to 2012, raising funds for charities including Wirral Hospice St John’s and Age UK Wirral. She was made an Alderman in 2022 after a political career of more than 25 years. Alongside her political career, she spent 41 years as a nurse, caring for older people, and continued her commitment to the community through her work supporting social care and local organisations.

Moira also has a very special connection to Mayfields Woodland Burial Ground. On 9 July 2011, Moira officially opened our Service Hall, marking an important moment in the history of Mayfields.

It feels particularly fitting to remember her today knowing that a part of her legacy remains here at Mayfields, a place dedicated to supporting families and providing a peaceful place for remembrance.

Our thoughts are with her four daughters, six grandchildren, siblings, family and friends at this very sad time.

Thank you, Moira, for everything you gave to Wirral and its communities. You will be remembered. ❤️

🌿 What a lovely evening at Mayfields! 💚

Our Death Café Picnic was such a wonderful evening, filled with good conversations, plenty of laughter, coffee, cake and some really thoughtful discussions.

It was lovely to see people come together in the woodland and feel comfortable talking about a subject that we don't always find easy to discuss.

We chatted about life, death, memories, what matters to us and everything in between, proving that conversations about death don't always have to be sad or uncomfortable.

There was a wonderful mix of people, some familiar faces and some new ones, and it was fantastic to see everyone sharing, listening and connecting with one another. 🌿

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped make our first Death Café Picnic such a special evening. 💚

We think we've started something rather lovely here at Mayfields... and we're already looking forward to the next one! ☕🍰

Thank you for helping us create a space where we can talk openly, remember those we've lost, and celebrate the conversations that help us make the most of the lives we're living. 🌿💚

🌿 Tonight's the Night - Death Café Picnic at Mayfields! 🌿

Just a little reminder that our Death Café Picnic is taking place this evening from 5pm-7pm at Mayfields Woodland Burial Ground.

Whether you're curious about what a Death Café is, would like to have open conversations about life and death, or simply fancy an evening of coffee, cake and good company in a beautiful woodland setting, we'd love to see you.

There'll be plenty of tea, coffee, cake, conversation, and family-friendly activities for those bringing little ones along.
