Fawcett and Hetherington Funeral Service

Fawcett and Hetherington Funeral Service Fawcett and Hetherington Funeral Service is a family owned & run company offering the highest Service and Compassion

In October 2010, we combined both offices and opened a purposely designed Funeral Home out of a former Public House on Eston High Street called King George House, we did this so that we could concentrate our efforts on providing a personal and comforting service in times of need. All our permanent staff are made up of family Members, because of this we can offer a complete, personal and profession

al service. We have 7 Chapels of Rest, 2 of which were specifically designed for disabled access. We have a Service Chapel in which we can hold small Funeral Services and other activities, if you would like to use this facility then please contact us. We have a fleet of Jaguar funeral vehicles and can also supply a Horse Drawn Hearse if required. We are the only Funeral Service in the Tees Valley area to offer The Coffin Cover which is a low cost, sustainable and dignified alternative to a traditional coffin. We are a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors and abide by its Code of Practice. Our staff are also members of the British Institute of Funeral Directors and The British Institute of Embalmers and we also abide by their codes of practice.

FAQ: Visiting Your Loved One in Our Chapel of Rest

For many families, spending time with a loved one in our Chapel of Rest can be an important part of saying goodbye. We’re often asked how it works, what to expect, and what options are available — so we’ve put together some gentle, clear answers.

1. Can I visit my loved one in the Chapel of Rest?

✅️ Families are welcome to visit during our office hours.
If close family or friends can’t come during our usual opening hours, we will do our best to accommodate you with an out‑of‑hours visit.
We’ll guide you through the process and ensure the space feels calm, private, and respectful.

2.What type of visit will it be?

This depends on the service you’ve chosen:
✅️Essential & Family Reflection Cremation: Closed coffin visits during office hours.
✅️Chapel Tribute Cremation: Viewing without hygienic treatment during office hours.
✅️Bespoke Service: Open or closed coffin, depending on what has been chosen at the arrangement.

3. If the coffin is open, do I have to see my loved one open?

❎️ If you want the coffin to be open for other people to view your loved one but you dont want to see them yourselves, you are more than welcome to ask us to close the coffin lid. We will simply close the coffin while you are in the chapel and reopen it once you leave.
Your comfort and welfare always comes first.

4. How many people can come?

You’re welcome to bring close family or friends. If you’d like a larger group or need more time, just let us know — we’ll do our best to accommodate you. We have a larger Chapel of rest which can accommodate up to 6 people, we can add more chairs or if you need more space we have the use of our large service chapel.

5. Can I bring children?

✅️ Children are welcome. Many families find comfort in allowing younger relatives the chance to say goodbye in their own gentle way.
We’ll support you throughout the visit and make sure the chapel feels calm and reassuring for them. We can take things slowly and go at their pace.
If you’d like guidance on how to prepare a child for the visit, we’re always here to help.

6. What should I expect during the visit?

Our team prepares the chapel with care so it feels peaceful and comforting.
As we request that you call us prior to visiting, you should be able to have your own private time with your loved one, without feeling rushed or having to wait to go into the chapel.
The chapels have air conditioning, so they can sometimes feel a little cool — just let us know if you’d like it turned off, or we can happily make you a warm cuppa to help you feel comfortable.
You’ll have the space you need to sit, reflect, talk, pray, or simply be present with your loved one.

7. Can I bring items with me?

✅️ Letters, photos, small keepsakes, or flowers can be placed with your loved one if you wish. There are some restrictions when it comes to cremations such as no glass or high pressured items, we will be happy to advise. If you want to bring your loved ones favourite perfume or aftershave we would happily spray it before you enter, or if they had a favorite genre of music we can play them a cd or radio station whilst they are with us.

8. Still unsure or have a question?

We’re here to help. Every family is different, and every goodbye is personal. If you’d like to talk through what feels right for you, just give us a call or send us a message.

✨ Introducing Our New Funeral Service Packages

Over the past few months, we’ve listened carefully to the families we support — what matters most to them, what brings comfort, and what helps make difficult days a little gentler.

Today, we’re proud to share our newly updated funeral service packages.

Each option has been thoughtfully shaped to offer clarity, choice, and dignity, with no hidden costs and the same standard of care you know us for.

🌿 Essential Direct Cremation
A simple, dignified option for those who prefer a quiet farewell without a service.

🌸 Chapel Tribute Cremation
A gentle, personal goodbye in our chapel, with time for reflection and music.

🌟 Family Reflection Cremation
A more traditional service with the opportunity for family and friends to gather, honour, and remember.

Every package has been designed to be transparent, flexible, and respectful — giving families the freedom to choose what feels right for them.

If you’d like to talk through the options or ask any questions, our team is here whenever you need us

Meet the Team at Fawcett & Hetherington

Meet Andrew — a familiar face to many of the families we support, and someone who brings the same calm, steady kindness to every part of his life.

During the week, Andrew is one of our Funeral Directors, guiding families with patience, dignity and quiet reassurance.
But outside of work, you’ll often find him on the pitch — coaching the Under‑16s at South Park Rangers and running a Saturday morning disability football session that means the world to the young people who attend.

Two roles, one heart.
Whether he’s supporting a family through a difficult day or cheering on a team from the sidelines, Andrew gives his time, care and encouragement freely.

We’re proud to have him as part of our team — and part of our community.

What Happens at a Burial?

A gentle guide for families

A burial is a deeply meaningful moment — a chance for family and friends to gather, reflect, and lay their loved one to rest with dignity. While every service is personal, the steps of a burial usually follow a simple, respectful flow.

Arrival at the Cemetery
The funeral cortege arrives at the graveside or chapel. Families may choose to walk behind the hearse for the final few steps, creating a moment of togetherness.

Words of Comfort
A minister, celebrant, or family member leads a short service. This may include readings, prayers, music, or personal reflections. It can be as traditional or as unique as the family wishes.

Lowering of the Coffin
The coffin is gently lowered into the grave by trained bearers. This is often the most emotional moment, and families are given as much time as they need.

Final Tributes
Loved ones may place flowers, soil, or symbolic items onto the coffin. Some choose quiet reflection; others share memories or say a few words.

After the Burial
Families can stay as long as they wish. The grave will be carefully finished by cemetery staff, and a temporary marker is usually placed until a memorial is chosen.

A burial is not just a procedure — it is a moment of honour, love, and farewell. If you ever feel unsure about what to expect, we’re here to guide you gently through every step.

*End of May Reflection*

As May draws to a close, the days feel brighter, the evenings linger a little longer, and that early summer warmth begins to settle in.
There’s something comforting about this time of year — the lighter skies, the soft breeze, the small moments of sunshine that lift the day.

But with the warmth often comes a quiet tug at the heart.
Longer days can remind us of the people we wish were still here to share them — the ones who loved the sunshine, the ones who filled this season with laughter, the ones whose absence feels sharper on bright days.

If you’re feeling that mix of light and longing as May comes to an end, you’re not alone.
Grief doesn’t follow the calendar, and even the loveliest weather can carry a shadow of someone we miss deeply.

May the final days of this month bring you gentle comfort, warm memories, and moments of peace.
And as we step into June, may you feel surrounded by care, understanding, and the quiet strength that comes from remembering those we love.

We’re here whenever you need us.
