Clinic Closed

We are taking a little breather, it's time for us to put our feet 👣 up and recharge those batteries. 🪫

So the clinic will be closed from Friday 24th July 2026 until Tuesday 11th August 2026.

This will be a longer break than normal, and we will be going off grid so access to mobile phone service will be limited.

WEARING SHOES IN THE HOUSE

This one seems to have sparked a huge widespread debate.

We are strictly a shoes off when you get into the house, and we do so in other people's homes too unless they say you can leave them on.

If anyone feels uncomfortable taking their shoes off in our house, we have clean guest slippers for people to wear which are washed after the guest has left.

So out of curiosity, tell us are you a shoes on or off in the house person? Watching that video footage may change your mind.

Interesting footage..foot...age get it? Okay bad joke, back to the topic. So interesting footage from the Bad Skin Clinic. A lady attended the clinic for a Verruca she'd had over 10 years.
Not wanting to criticise, but from watching, it doesn't appear she's visited a Podiatrist sadly.

When it comes to Verrucas, we've heard all the 'alternative' treatments like banana skin, garlic, duct tape, vapour rub, tea tree oil..and in truth we CANNOT recommend them because there isn't enough researched evidence.

You can buy over the counter remedies like Bazuka, but we don't recommend that either because you have to be really careful with the application otherwise it damages healthly tissue around the Verruca.

Podiatrists are specialists in this area and they have a range of options such as freezing, silver nitrate, Verrutop, Swift, Faulkner's needling and Klaser to treat Verrucas. These are much more effective, but nothing is 💯 and you might have to try different things to find what works for you.

Not in a weird way, we don't have any strange foot obsession. 🤣

But we do love how interesting feet are,
they are so complicated and yet they do an amazing job.

⁉️ Did you know EACH foot has 26 bones, 33 joints and over 100 muscles, ligaments and tendons. 😲

⁉️ The average person takes between 8,000-10,000 steps each day. That adds up to approximately 115,000 miles in a typical lifetime—the equivalent to circling the globe more than four times! 😲

⁉️ Your feet have about 250,000 sweat glands which produce up to half a pint of perspiration each day.

There are approximately 8,000 nerves in the feet—that’s more per square centimeter than any place else on your body.

Toenails grow more slowly than fingernails—approximately 1 mm per month. It takes 5-6 months to grow an entirely new toenail.

In an average day of walking, your feet experience forces totaling hundreds of tons—the equivalent of a fully-loaded cement truck.

Women experience foot problems four times more often than men. This is largely attributed to shoe choice. High heels and toes with pointy, narrow toe boxes cause multiple foot issues.

Babies’ feet grow rapidly. By age one, most have reached nearly have of their adult size.

Rarely are two feet on a person the same size.

Feet are largest at the end of the day.

The holiday season is upon us, and I wanted to share a very powerful story of Julie who has now sadly passed away.

She had Malignant Melanoma which started on her foot as a mole back in 2018.

What she has gone through is truly horrific, so we ask everyone reading this post to please share it. Make sure you use a high factor sunscreen including your feet, and please do regular mole checks on your body. At least once a month. If you can't check your own back or legs, get someone to help.

If you find anything unusual, PLEASE see a doctor and don't be afraid to ask for a second opinion if you are not happy.

Remember itching, and bleeding in a mole are also signs that it needs a medical assessment. So don't ignore it.

Fascinating Foot Fact Friday

PODOPHOBIA

The fear of feet is called Podophobia. It is actually a REAL thing. It's an intense, irrational anxiety that can involve a fear of other people's feet, one's own feet, or even just the thought or sight of bare feet. 👀🦶

So when people say they hate 😳 feet 🦶 then be sympathetic, the fear is real. 😱
Fortunately, we love 💕 feet 🦶 but not in some weird fe**sh way. We love 💕 feet 🦶 because they tell us SO much about a person's health. They are not very good at keeping secrets, 🤫 and we've lost count how many heart issues 🫀we've picked up and referred to GP practices. We think it's probably in triple figures by now, because we find at least one a week.

So if you hate your feet or fear them, please don't worry because we are here to help and we love feet.

Just to let everyone know that we will NOT be closing early for the England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 game. I'm afraid Alan doesn't get an early finish THAT easy...okay maybe if it was the final I'd consider it. But I'm a task master and our patient appointments are important to us. If people want to watch it on their phones whilst their treatment is taking place, that's fine by us.
