πŸ’™ Diabetes Awareness Week πŸ’™

Diabetes is a long-term condition that affects how the body regulates blood sugar (glucose). With the right care and support, many people live well with diabetes and reduce the risk of complications.

There are two main types:
β€’ Type 1 diabetes – where the body cannot produce insulin
β€’ Type 2 diabetes – where the body cannot use insulin effectively

Common symptoms can include increased thirst, frequent urination, tiredness, and unexplained weight loss.

Good diabetes management includes regular monitoring and routine care such as:
🩸 Annual diabetes reviews and blood tests (HbA1c and other checks)
πŸ‘οΈ Regular eye screening to check for diabetic retinopathy
🦢 Foot checks to reduce the risk of ulcers and complications
πŸ’Š Medication and lifestyle review support

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK.

Bowel cancer screening uses a test called a faecal immunochemical test (FIT) to look for blood in a sample of your poo. This could be a sign of bowel cancer.

You collect the sample at home and send it by post to be tested.

It can help find cancer early, and before you have any symptoms, which may mean it's easier to treat.

Bowel cancer screening is currently offered to people aged 50 to 74 every 2 years.

If you think you're eligible for bowel cancer screening but you've not been invited, or had your test kit, or are over the age of 75 and would like to ask for the test, call the bowel cancer screening helpline on 0800 707 6060.

πŸ“£ Could you spare 15 minutes to learn a skill that could save a life?

This British Heart Week, we're supporting the Sky Bet and British Heart Foundation's campaign.

Our colleague Andy Wall survived a cardiac arrest thanks to the quick actions of those around him, including CPR and the use of a defibrillator.

Inspired by Andy's story, we're encouraging everyone to complete the free 15-minute RevivR CPR training.

πŸ’Š Antibiotics aren’t always the answer.

Antimicrobial resistance happens when bacteria change and antibiotics stop working. This is happening faster because of overuse and misuse.

If antibiotics stop working, even common infections could become harder to treat. Help protect these vital medicines:

βœ… Only take antibiotics when prescribed
βœ… Follow advice from healthcare professionals

Let’s keep antibiotics working for everyone.
