🐾 Walter’s incredible journey! 💙

Meet Walter, who suffered a spinal episode that left him unable to walk.

For Walter and his owner, it was an incredibly difficult and worrying time. But with dedicated rehabilitation, patience and an amazing commitment from his owner at home, Walter has made some fantastic progress. 🥹

A huge thank you to Winston’s Wheels Charity for kindly loaning Walter a wheelchair during his recovery. 🛞❤️ Having the wheelchair has given Walter the opportunity to get out, explore, exercise and regain his independence, even when he wasn’t yet able to walk unaided.

And now… Walter is walking in his wheelchair! 🎉🐾

This has been such an important part of his rehabilitation journey, helping him stay active and enjoy life while continuing to work on his strength, movement and recovery.

Seeing the difference in Walter from where he started to where he is now is just incredible. ❤️

A massive well done to Walter and his dedicated owner for all their hard work, and another huge thank you to Winston’s Wheels Charity for helping give Walter back some freedom and independence. 🐾💙

🐾 Misty’s confidence journey 💕

Meet Misty, a rescue GSD who came to us a very nervous girl, understandably unsure of people, new environments and rehabilitation equipment.

Misty was referred to us with a suspected left hind cruciate tear and significant muscle loss through both hind limbs. Before we could focus on the equipment, we first needed to focus on Misty — building her confidence, helping her feel safe around people and gradually introducing her to the sights, sounds and sensations of her rehab sessions.

We took things slowly, working at her pace and celebrating every little win. We are still working on touch during the sessions but you can already see she trusts me more every time! 🥰

And look at her now… 🥹❤️

After patiently building that trust and confidence, Misty has worked her way up to managing a session on the treadmill! What may look like a simple treadmill walk is actually a HUGE achievement for a nervous dog who once found the whole rehabilitation environment overwhelming.

Her progress is a brilliant reminder that rehabilitation isn’t always just about muscles, strength and movement — sometimes the biggest part of the journey is building confidence and trust first.

Well done, Misty! 🌟 We’re so proud of you! 🐾❤️

❤️🐾 Don’t let age define your dog. 💙🐾

At 14 years young, Fudge is absolutely bossing his hydrotherapy sessions! 🌊✨

As our dogs get older, it’s easy to assume slowing down is just part of ageing—but that’s not always the case. Hydrotherapy is a gentle, low-impact form of exercise that can help senior dogs maintain muscle strength, improve mobility, reduce joint stiffness, and keep them active and enjoying life for longer.

Watching Fudge work so hard is a reminder that age is just a number. With the right support, our golden oldies can continue to thrive, build confidence, and enjoy their exercise.

🐾 Not all pain is the same… and not all pain should be treated the same way.

Dogs can experience several different types of pain, and understanding what kind of pain they are experiencing can make a big difference to how we manage it.

🦴 Nociceptive pain
Pain caused by actual or potential tissue damage — for example after surgery, an injury, or from an arthritic joint.

🔥 Inflammatory pain
Inflammation makes the tissues more sensitive and painful. This is commonly seen with arthritis, joint disease, soft-tissue injuries and following surgery.

⚡ Neuropathic pain
Pain caused by damage or irritation to the nerves themselves. Dogs may show unusual sensitivity, licking, twitching, altered sensation or pain that seems disproportionate to what we can see.

🧠 Central sensitisation
With persistent pain, the nervous system can become increasingly sensitive — almost like the body’s “pain volume” has been turned up. Things that wouldn’t normally hurt can start to become uncomfortable.

⏳ Chronic pain
Long-term pain can affect much more than mobility. Dogs may sleep more, become quieter, hesitate before jumping or using stairs, become less tolerant of handling or simply seem to be “getting old”.

And importantly, a dog can experience more than one type of pain at the same time.

This is why good pain management isn’t always about finding one medication or one treatment. It may involve veterinary pain relief alongside rehabilitation, appropriate exercise, weight management, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and other supportive therapies.

🐶 Dogs are incredibly good at adapting to discomfort. Sometimes the first sign of pain isn’t crying or limping — it’s simply a change in how they move or behave.

Pain is complex. Treatment should be individual too. 💙🐾

🐾 Healthy weight = healthier joints! 🐾

Keeping your dog at a healthy Body Condition Score (BCS) is important for every dog — but it’s especially important for dogs living with arthritis, hip or elbow dysplasia, cruciate disease and other joint problems.

Extra body fat affects joints in TWO important ways:

🦴 More mechanical load
Extra weight means increased forces travelling through already painful or compromised joints with every step.

🔥 More inflammation
Fat isn’t simply stored energy. Adipose (fat) tissue is biologically active and releases inflammatory signalling chemicals called adipokines and cytokines.

At a cellular level, excess fat can promote and sustain inflammatory pathways within the body — potentially contributing to the inflammatory environment associated with joint disease.

Maintaining a lean, healthy body condition can therefore help to:

🐕 Reduce unnecessary loading through the joints
🔥 Reduce the body’s pro-inflammatory burden
💪 Make movement and exercise easier
🦴 Support dogs with osteoarthritis and other joint conditions
🏃 Help dogs get more from their physiotherapy and hydrotherapy
❤️ Support long-term health and quality of life

And remember — body condition isn’t just about the number on the scales. We want our rehab patients to carry plenty of healthy muscle without unnecessary body fat.

Update!! The lovely Gerry has been found safe after a little adventure! ❤️

🚨 MISSING CAT – PLEASE HELP US FIND GERRY 🚨

A much-loved cat Gerry has gone missing from Undley Road, Lakenheath.

🧡 Gerry is a 9-year-old ginger tabby, microchipped, neutered and very much loved. He is very friendly but may be frightened and hiding. He could also have caught a lift and be in surrounding villages.

🌳 Bushes and gardens

He may have accidentally become trapped somewhere.

If you’ve seen Gerry or have any information, no matter how small, please get in touch as soon as possible.

🐱 Yes… we see cats too! 💙

We know our name might make you think we’re all about dogs (and they do keep us very busy!), but we’re always happy to help our feline friends too.

Cats can benefit from physiotherapy for a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, post-operative recovery, neurological conditions and soft tissue injuries. Our aim is to reduce discomfort, improve mobility and help them get back to doing what cats do best.

We understand that cats aren’t always keen on new places, so we keep appointments as calm and quiet as possible, giving them plenty of time to settle and working entirely at their pace. If travelling is tricky, let us know and we can put you in touch with a mobile physio who can come to you 😊

🐾 💙 Meet Stanley 💙🐾

Stanley is one of our lovely bulldog patients who has been diagnosed with SAD (Subarachnoid Diverticulum).

A subarachnoid diverticulum is a pocket of cerebrospinal fluid that develops around the spinal cord. This can put pressure on the spinal cord, leading to weakness, unsteady walking (ataxia), reduced coordination and, in some cases, pain. It is seen more commonly in certain breeds, including Bulldogs.

Stanley is undergoing a tailored rehabilitation programme with us, including hydrotherapy, to help improve his strength, coordination and muscle mass while providing low-impact exercise that’s kind to his joints and spine.

Every session is helping Stanley build confidence and maintain the best mobility possible. We are so proud of how hard he works and the progress he’s making. 💪🐶

Keep going, Stanley – you’re an absolute superstar! ❤️

As many of you know, we’re a small team and spend most of our day hands-on with our patients in the hydrotherapy pool, underwater treadmill, physiotherapy sessions and laser treatments. 💙

This means we can’t always answer the phone straight away, and occasionally we may genuinely miss returning a call.

If you haven’t heard back from us, please send us a text or WhatsApp on 07483 316052. 📱 It’s the best way to remind us to give you a call back once we’ve finished with our patients at the end of the day. Sometimes this can be after 8pm so bear with us!
