Back to school!

It’s a big step in a child’s life starting or going back to school.
Best start in life has some useful information for those who are starting school. Even though it’s a big step their development, there’s support from the school, other parents/carers, family and friends. Some children settle in straight away, others may take a bit more time, every child is different. Please talk to the school if you need support

National Dog Day

National Dog Day, also known as International Dog Day, is a time to come together and celebrate all things DOG. National Dog Day reminds us to show appreciation for Dogs but also all animals

Animals are a great opportunity to play using sounds ‘woof, woof’ playing with a dog i.e. ‘fetch’ walking a dog or sitting down on the floor with your dog.
If you don’t have a dog, you can use animal toys, books, pretend play ‘i.e. being a vet’
You can comment using words

‘Fluffy dog’
‘Soft fur’
‘Long nose’
‘Wet nose’
‘tail’

• Racing cars
• Going down a slide
• Outdoor activities

Reading books pt2

Here are some more tips to support book reading.
When reading with your child remember to:
- Get face to face
- Let your child lead (e.g. talk about what they point to)
- Give your child a chance to take turns
- Keep language simple
- Repeat words again and again.

Here are some ideas to try:
Make your own books, for example:

Interactive books (e.g. flaps- hide an interesting picture under each flap)

Picture books about special event
(e.g. birthday, holiday etc)
