Further to our post on Friday, did you guess what the man was wearing?

It was an Age Simulation Suit. Consisting of several components, it recreates many of the physical effects associated with ageing, helping wearers gain a better understanding of the challenges experienced in later life.

This suit will be available for you to try at our upcoming event.

Free to attend, this event welcomes anyone who cares for or supports an older person, whether as a family member, friend, or volunteer. If you've ever wanted to learn more about later life, explore local support options, or gain a greater understanding of the opportunities and challenges that come with ageing, this event is for you.

🌳 1. Take a gentle stroll around Willen Lake

Willen Lake is a great option when you want to get outside without planning a complicated day out.

There are surfaced walking routes, seating areas and accessible facilities, with shorter routes available if a longer walk feels too much. The Peace Pagoda and surrounding scenery also give you plenty to stop and look at along the way.

Dementia-friendly tip:
Don't make the walk about how far you've gone. Take your time, stop for a coffee, watch the birds or simply sit and enjoy the view. 🌿

🏡 2. Step back in time at Milton Keynes Museum

Milton Keynes Museum is packed with opportunities for reminiscence, making it a particularly interesting place to visit with someone who enjoys talking about the past.

The Victorian farmhouse, old-fashioned shops, telephone gallery, farming equipment and transport displays can all spark memories and conversations. The museum also has accessible paths and seating around the grounds.

Dementia-friendly tip:
Instead of testing someone's memory with “Do you remember this?”, try:

“Did you ever have one of these?”

It makes the conversation feel natural rather than like a quiz. 💚

🌲 3. Visit the Tree Cathedral

The Tree Cathedral at Willen Lake is a wonderfully peaceful spot for a quieter outing.

The short Tree Cathedral route is around 0.5 miles, with no elevation changes, and follows paths through the trees. There are some steps at the Tree Cathedral itself, although these can be avoided.

Dementia-friendly tip:
Keep things simple. Enjoy the sounds, smells and changing seasons, rather than trying to fill the visit with activities. A thermos of tea and a bench can be enough. ☕🌳

As our ageing population continues to rapidly grow worldwide, there are significant implications for health and wellbeing. Navigating these changes can be challenging and sometimes overwhelming for individuals and their loved ones.

We are excited to be hosting a fantastic and FREE Ageing Well event at our Home Instead Milton Keynes offices.

Led by a Clinical Nurse Specialist, this session will explore what frailty is and the practical steps that can be taken to support healthy ageing.

There will also be a unique opportunity to experience frailty first - hand through an interactive demonstration, providing valuable insight into the challenges some older adults face.

Spaces for this event are limited, and advance booking is essential.

🏡 Home Instead Milton Keynes supports older adults to live well at home through companionship, home care and specialist support.

💚 Al’s Pals supports people affected by cancer and their families with practical and emotional support, befriending, advocacy and signposting.

By working together, we can share expertise, make referrals, signpost families and connect people with the right support when they need it.

And this is just the beginning…

We’re looking forward to sharing ideas, learning from each other, collaborating on future projects and building a stronger community ecosystem of support across Milton Keynes.

Because when organisations come together, people benefit.

End-of-life care is something no one wants to think about or discuss; however, there are times when, sadly, it is something that has to be addressed.

At this very emotional time, the most important thing is ensuring that the individual's wishes are carried out and that they are treated with compassion, dignity, and respect.

Home Instead Milton Keynes is always honoured to be entrusted with supporting someone through this time. We provide personalised care, help fulfil final wishes, and offer support to loved ones throughout this difficult time.

What an amazing day we had yesterday at our Lunch & Learn Community Business Event at our new Home Instead Milton Keynes offices in Mount Farm! 💜

It was wonderful to welcome so many fantastic people from local businesses, charities, public health, community organisations, and other sectors, all coming together to connect, network, and get to know one another.

The room was filled with great conversations, new connections, and exciting ideas, and we can't wait to see the support, collaborations, and partnerships that grow from them.

A huge thank you to The Mayor Paul, every business, charity, organisation, and guest who joined us. We loved welcoming you and hope you enjoyed the afternoon as much as we did!

A big thank you to Pastasimo, Dum On The Run and Matt for keeping everyone well fed with such delicious food. 🍝🌯

And finally, a massive thank you to our amazing Home Instead Milton Keynes team for all the hard work that went into organising another fantastic event. We couldn't do it without you! 💜
