🧡 A little update from us… no AI pictures this time 🙂‍↔️

Firstly, thank you for bearing with me over the last couple of weeks. Life has been a little hectic behind the scenes, but we’re back on track and there’s been plenty happening.

This Monday (20th July) at 10:30am, we’ll be meeting at the EMpact office space on Mart Road, Minehead.

This will be a chance to:
🏡 Look around the space and how we can use it.
🤝 Discuss regular community drop-in sessions.
📋 Continue building our governance and policies.
🌱 Start shaping the future of EMpact properly.

A huge thank you also to Keeley, who’s been doing a fantastic job helping keep things moving while I’ve been juggling everything else. As EMpact grows, you’ll be hearing a lot more from both of us.

Over the past few weeks, something pretty special has been happening.

What started as a conversation between a handful of people has become a growing group of local residents, professionals and organisations who all believe one thing:

People deserve better joined-up support.

This week wasn't about headlines.

It wasn't about announcing a new service.

It was about doing the hard work that every organisation should do before it grows.

We spent the evening discussing governance, safeguarding, communication between services and how we can build practical systems that genuinely help people instead of adding more confusion.

One of the biggest things we agreed?

EMpact isn't here to replace existing organisations.

We're here to work alongside them, helping hold the thread so people don't fall between services.

Every week we're building something stronger.

Thank you to everyone giving up their evenings, experience and knowledge to help shape this from the ground up.

The foundations are being built.

People are falling between services.

Families, housing, health, social care, community groups and practical support often all exist, but they do not always connect at the point people need them most.

That is the gap EMpact is being built to help bridge.

Many people do not need more services.

They need those services connected through practical action.

We are now bringing together people with professional experience, lived experience, practical skills and local knowledge to help shape what comes next.

We may have found EMpact’s first investor…

Meet Mooncake. 🐾

He has reviewed the early supporter group, inspected the funding pile, and after careful consideration has agreed that EMpact has potential.

His terms are currently:

• full control of the warmest chair
• all meetings to include snacks
• no decisions during nap time
• and future funding to be paid in Dreamies

Negotiations are ongoing.

On a serious note, what is happening behind the scenes already feels incredibly powerful.

Since launching EMpact, we have started building an early community group of people who want to help shape what comes next.

So far, the group includes experience in:

• social work
• safeguarding
• mental health
• neurodiversity
• education
• youth work
• Citizens Advice
• homelessness support
• drug and alcohol support
• care leaver projects
• volunteer onboarding
• project management
• fundraising
• bookkeeping and admin
• palliative support
• disability support
• form filling and paperwork support
• lived experience of overwhelm, care, recovery, service breakdown and community need

Mooncake has confirmed this is a strong start.

Although he did fall asleep halfway through governance.

Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at the people, structure, support and resources needed to build EMpact properly.

But for now, the most important investment is not money.

It is people.

People with time.
People with skills.
People with lived experience.
People with local knowledge.
People who care enough to help build something properly.
