One bad game does not make you a bad cricketer.

Runs and wickets matter. Young players want to perform, contribute and win.

But one innings, one spell or one difficult day should never define how they see themselves.

As parents, one of the most helpful things we can do is keep perspective — noticing more than the scorecard, and helping our children understand that disappointment is part of cricket, not a verdict on who they are.

What do selectors really notice?

Runs, wickets and standout moments matter — but they are rarely the whole picture.

At trials, selectors may also notice how a player prepares, responds after mistakes, communicates, competes and stays composed when things do not go perfectly.

That is why preparation matters.

Our Preparing for Trials workshop is designed for young cricketers and the parents supporting them.

Players will leave with practical ways to manage pressure, handle nerves, prepare with more clarity and show more of their real ability when it matters.

"Not everyone will make it... but anyone can make it.”

A powerful mindset shift from Warwickshire C.C.C Academy Manager, Faisal Shahid.

Too many young cricketers become obsessed with selection, results and outcomes.

But as Faisal explains, long-term development is rarely about chasing the outcome.

It's about committing to the process, continuing to improve, and learning how to navigate the inevitable setbacks that every player faces.

Whether you're a player, parent or coach, this is a message worth hearing.

Still seeing the same pattern?

They train well.
They show ability.
They care about their cricket.

But when the match starts, something changes.

They hesitate.
They overthink.
They don't play with the same freedom you see in practice.

That's exactly why we created Play To Your Potential.

A focused 3-session programme designed to help young cricketers transfer what they can do in practice into match performance.

✔ 3 one-to-one sessions
✔ A clear personalised action plan
✔ Practical tools for confidence, pressure and overthinking
