A little introduction for anyone new here 🤍

I'm Sam, the face behind SJ Wellness.

Alongside my career in finance, my own healing journey led me to massage, breathwork and sound healing. What started as something I needed for myself became something I felt called to share with others.

Today, I offer massage, sound baths and nervous system-led sessions designed to help people slow down, reconnect and find moments of rest.

Whether you've been here from the start or you've only just found my page, thank you for being here 🤍

I'd love to know...how did you find SJ Wellness?

I’d forgotten just how much I love offering Indian Head Massage.

Today’s client arrived after a busy day out with her children and a stressful journey due to traffic. Rather than rushing straight into the treatment, my priority was helping her transition from the busyness of the day into a place of calm.

We began with gentle breathwork and a guided body scan, allowing her to reconnect with herself and become aware of where she was holding tension. From there, I introduced sound therapy with my Tibetan bowls before moving into the massage, weaving sound and stillness throughout the session.

One of the things I love most about this work is witnessing the moment the body begins to let go.

Around 20-25 minutes into the treatment, I could see the shift happening. Her breathing became deeper and slower, her shoulders softened, and the tension she’d been carrying started to melt away. Then came a big exhale, one of those moments where it feels as though the body finally gives itself permission to release the weight of the day.

It’s a beautiful reminder that healing isn’t always about doing more. Sometimes it’s simply about creating the space for the mind and body to feel safe enough to rest.

Indian Head Massage is so much more than a scalp massage. When combined with breathwork and sound, it becomes a deeply calming experience for the whole nervous system.

I think today’s session reminded me just how much I love this treatment 🤍

The Slow Sunday Morning Circle 🤍

Not every Sunday needs to be spent catching up.

Sometimes what we need most is to slow down.

Join me this Sunday morning for a gentle circle of meditation, reflection, sound and connection.

A chance to step away from the noise, settle into the present moment, and begin the week feeling calmer and more grounded.

We’ll start with gentle breathwork and grounding before settling into a deeply restorative sound bath, followed by herbal tea if you’d like to stay a little longer.

The growing number of sound baths means more people are being introduced to the power of sound, and that's something I think is incredibly positive.

More people are discovering the benefits of sound, relaxation and nervous system regulation than ever before.

But when choosing a practitioner, look beyond the bowls, gongs and aesthetics.

Ask about their training, experience, ongoing practice and how they hold space.

Because a sound bath isn’t defined by what’s played. It’s defined by the presence, care and integrity of the person facilitating it.

Swipe through for some of the questions I’d encourage you to ask before booking, and my own answers to them 🤍✨

Confession from a massage therapist: this is exactly why I struggle to book massages for myself.

I know the benefits of regular treatment and I encourage my clients to make time for it, but too often I’m reminded that a good massage isn’t just about hands on skin.

I’m currently on holiday and treated myself and my partner to a massage in our beautiful 5-star hotel spa. The surroundings were stunning, but the experience left me disappointed.

The music kept cutting out, there were little distractions that kept pulling me out of relaxation, the pressure started exactly where I’d asked for it and then gradually faded away, and the whole treatment felt more like following a routine than responding to what was in front of them.

It reminded me that there is so much more to a massage than a beautiful spa, luxury surroundings or a treatment menu.

Because no amount of fluffy robes, herbal tea or luxury facilities can replace a therapist who is truly present, listening and responding to what’s in front of them.

Being away from home and booking somewhere new also reminded me that finding a therapist whose touch, presence and approach genuinely resonate with you isn’t always easy.

For me, the difference isn’t just technique. It’s feeling listened to, cared for and treated as an individual rather than another appointment in the diary.

When you find that therapist, it’s worth its weight in gold.

Experiences like this are also a reminder of what I want every client who comes to me to feel: seen, supported and completely able to switch off.
