Staff and patients from the Links Health Centre, took over all volunteer roles at Montrose Parkrun this morning. What a great way to start the morning.

Regular Montrose parkrunners will be familiar with the Links Health Centre takeovers over the years (see photo). This week, we are looking forward to welcoming everyone back as they headline our volunteer roster once again. Here is some more information as to why this is important to them:

"The Links Health Centre staff are part of an exciting, innovative, award-winning initiative, where the Royal College of GPs is collaborating with parkrun UK to promote the health and wellbeing of staff and patients. This project encourages GP practices of all sizes to link with their local parkrun events to become parkrun practices.

As a parkrun practice, the surgery encourages staff and patients to take part in parkrun and the Links Practices do an annual takeover of volunteering. Some of the staff are regular parkrunners/walkers at both adult and the junior parkruns and see this as a way to improve their health and wellbeing, increase skill development, friendships and socialising, and gives mutual support and personal empowerment to themselves.

Over 1,800 GP surgeries are now parkrun practices and we are all proud to support this initiative."

On this day in 1821, Susan Carnegie sadly passed.

Susan Carnegie was a writer, poet, and philanthropist who's contributions vastly improved the town of Montrose.

During a trip to Montrose, Carnegie was disgusted by the extremely poor and inhumane treatment the town's folk were subjected to if found to be suffering with poor mental health. Prior to the founding of the asylum, those deemed “insane” were imprisoned in the town’s tolbooth, once located in Montrose High Street.

Due to what she'd witnessed that day, Carnegie founded Montrose Asylum in 1781 - The first of its kind in Scotland.

However, her contributions did not end there. Carnegie later went on to found both the Montrose Female Friendly Society and a local savings bank. Whilst also working closely with the church to provide poor relief.

To learn more about Susan Carnegie and Sunnyside Asylum/Hospital, please visit Montrose Museum & Art Gallery open Wed-Mon (closed Tuesday) 10:30am-4pm.

(Please note that some visitors may find the displays uncomfortable, and we ask that you contact us should you have any concerns).

Fed up trying to get through to the practice on the phone or having to tell the receptionist personal information, which you prefer to discuss with a clinician direct?

We understand it can feel frustrating when you need help from the practice. One of the quickest and easiest ways to contact us is through Engage. We will be going live soon.

Annat Health Centre will be using Engage an online consultation platform.

Online consultations allows you to contact your GP practice without having to telephone or go in person to the practice. Its a secure way to ask your GP questions about your condition and symptoms and also get advice.

The practice usually triages the request and responds within a stated time frame.

We know some patients feel the receptionist asks a lot of questions, but by using Engage there are only 7 quick questions and they usually take just a few minutes to complete.

These questions help our clinicians:

Understand your symptoms clearly
Assess how urgent your problem may be
Direct you to the right clinician or service first time
Avoid unnecessary appointments when advice or another service may help faster.
Giving good information at the start helps us provide safer, quicker and more accurate care.
