Really like this simple representation of the main ways people respond to emotional neglect. It’s worth noting our parents/caregivers rarely fail to meet our emotional needs on purpose; sometimes, circumstances means that tending to anything more than our basic physical needs is all they could manage at the time. Still, knowing what our coping mechanism is helps us identify what patterns are making our adult relationships more difficult, and how to disentangle from them. ☺️

This article really captures my own experience of being diagnosed with narcolepsy, but also the experience of many clients I have worked with who were diagnosed with conditions like ADHD, PTSD, and other chronic conditions. Oh, there *is* something going on here; I'm not just morally flawed or inadequate! Receiving a diagnosis can be associated with a lot of negative emotions, but in some circumstances, it can also be hugely validating. The more you know about yourself, the better equipped you are to build resilience and address your self-care needs. 💚

One woman’s experience with narcolepsy reveals how invisible symptoms can become moralized, reshaping identity, shame, and self-worth.

Thought of the day... Does that resonate with any of you? For me, accepting some of the things I can't change is still very much a work in progress! 😅
