Returning to Running After Injury? 🏃♂️
🚩 Don’t Pick Up Where You Left Off!!
One of the biggest mistakes runners make after an injury is trying to return to their previous mileage or pace too quickly 🏃 💨
Although your pain may have settled and your return to run tests are proving pain free, your body has often deconditioned during the recovery period.
Muscles lose strength, tendons and ligaments require time to regain their load tolerance and your cardiovascular fitness may return faster than your tissues can adapt 🩻
A successful return to running should be gradual, allowing your body to rebuild:
🏃 Muscle strength and endurance
🏃 Tendon and ligament capacity
🏃 Running-specific conditioning
🏃 Tolerance to repetitive loading
Progressing too quickly increases the risk of overloading healing tissues and can lead to recurring pain or a new injury 🤓
The goal isn’t simply to get back to running - it’s to return stronger! 💪
