With the bank holiday coming up, it’s a really good time to check that you have a well-stocked first aid kit at home or in your car.

Things like plasters, antiseptic cream & painkillers can help you deal with minor accidents & injuries.

Visit the St John's Ambulance website to find out what goes in a first aid kit 👉 https://orlo.uk/oREel

With another spell of hot weather underway, the UK Health Security Agency have shared some guidance around keeping your little one cool, comfortable, and ready for sleep.

🔹 During the day, close windows and curtains in rooms that face the sun
🔹 At night, keep air flowing through open doors and windows (if it's safe to do so)
🔹 Use electric fans if the air temperature is below 35 degrees Celsius, but do not aim the fan directly at your baby as this can lead to dehydration
🔹 Remove any excess clothing and check on them regularly to make sure they are not overheating
🔹 Sleeping in just a nappy is fine
🔹 If another safe room is cooler, temporarily move their sleep set-up to there

You can find more information about hot weather and babies on The Lullaby Trust's website ➡️ https://orlo.uk/GobxW

The UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow heat-health alert (HHA) for the North East, until 9pm on Friday 14 August.

It's important to make sure you keep yourself and those around you safe during the hot weather.

Some tips to beat the heat are:
☑️ Stay out of the direct sun, especially during the hottest part of the day (11am and 3pm)
☑️ Protect yourself. Apply sunscreen, wear a hat, walk in the shade and wear light, loose-fitting clothes
☑️ Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol consumption
☑️ Avoid extreme physical exertion

The NHS is encouraging parents and carers to check that their children are up to date with their MMR vaccinations, following a rise in measles cases across England.

Children aged 1 to 11 who have missed one or both doses of the MMR vaccine will be invited for vaccination as part of a national catch-up campaign. Children under 6 may also be eligible for the MMRV vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox.

If you're unsure whether your child is up to date with their vaccinations, you can check their red book. If you are still unsure, or wish to book a vaccination, please contact our reception team.
