When our animal friend transitions it is a scared act - something sacred is happening and, deep down, we know there is something we can and should be doing, we are just not sure what that is.

This is ceremony.

Our body knows of its connection with sacred, with divine, and that the body is a divine sacred instrument, a vessel, that is connected in relation with spirit and nature.

We are all sacred beings, expressions of divine consciousness in a sacred body. When a sacred being is leaving its sacred body it is to be honoured.

Our intuitive body and sacred soul know of ceremony, how to do it and long for it - we are tribal beings by nature and are to be in ceremony when intense moments arrive in our life.

Ceremony is not a one time thing. They are integral to our human existence but, for many, ceremonies have ceased to exist and so we feel lost, incomplete, disconnected and carry the pain, weight and grief of our animal friend’s transition within us - adding to the weight of the many griefs we carry within our body.

It’s not that we are not supposed to grieve - we absolutely are, and well. We are to grieve well, deeply and intensely so that the grief can move, can cook, can boil and evaporate in to something that feels different. We are to feel our grief, guided by our body. We are not to carry grief in our body for all our life - grief does not want this and neither does our animal friend.

When our animal friend is preparing for their transition, or where they have transitioned, we are to enter a different space, place and state with this to honour them and hold ceremony for them - to honour the sacred animal they were and the sacred spirit and ancestor they become for us and how to keep this relationship alive.

Then, we are to meet our grief and hold ceremony for it.

We are ceremonial beings by nature and long to be in ceremony when intense experiences and felt and rise in us.

We are to be in ceremony when our animal friend transitions - in honour to them, in giving them a good send off, in keeping our relationship alive and in our grief.

We can begin to remember and remind ourselves of the ceremonial being we are and our relation with the unseen and more than human, the dreaming landscape of nature and infinite connection with our animal friend as divine consciousness, by practicing this relation with them through their transition and our grief.

Venturing in to the cosmological landscapes of sacred we can meet and be in ceremony with our grief and also enquire with our animal friend how to create a ceremony for them and their transition and keep our relation with them alive from the unseen landscape they return to.

Twenty four hours before Tunkasila transitioned I sat in vigil, in prayer and in ceremony with her.

It was about 2am and, anyone who knows me knows I become dead spider pose by 10pm, which is my usually when I go in to sleepy time state.

But this was different. I was in deep prayer, deep meaning and deep honouring with Tunkasila as I called upon and was in company with the unseen, with ancestors, with spirit helpers in the more than human to be with Tunkasila for her transition and support her.

During this state, I asked Tunkasila what she may have to offer and to share about death, if anything. I was curious to learn how she was experiencing her transition, her coming out of body, how she would share it and how it is considered.

What she shared, and continues to share about our connection and continued existence to all brought such wisdom to me and more intrigue of wanting to explore the sacred act of transition and grief as teachings for life.

Below, you can read what she shared.

My animal friends have been and continue to be an integral part of teaching me what transition and grief are leading us to - a medicine path to an awakened heart through sacred, ceremony and soul work so that we can also re-weave our relation with the unseen and more than human that we are connected to and part of.

They really do have so much to show and share with us and it never not excites me when we enter this space with them!

You can read more of her channellings in her book, Tunkasila's Teachings: Wisdom from the Canine Soul, Medicine for the Human Heart.

We are part of the cosmos, the living earth and are to be in respectful relationship with the more than human and unseen through right relation with it; it is our deepest longing and deepest grief.

Nothing deeper than grief itself takes us to this place. Our grief leads us blindly, unknowingly and unwillingly in to the unseen, the unknown, the dark spaces that have been left unexplored, barren and not daring to enter. The shadow lands of our grief are exactly where we are to frequent to begin to rebuild and remember our relation with the unseen and more than human. It is the shadow lands of the unknown where we meet and find them.

There are many routes, ways, paths and tributaries that lead us in to the unknown and unseen lands of grief, so that we can come back feeling different, softer, elated, more connected and even more alive and full of life.

One powerful route is through the being in right relation with our plant spirit allies and friends.

We all have our own individual and unique relationship with plant spirit allies that are specific to us and wish to work with us.

It is the same for our animal friends in their life and when their transition comes - they have their own unique and individual relationship with plant allies that they can ask to have with them for when they transition that will help, support and guide them back to the unseen, spirit world; the land of the ancestors.

Plants are incredible beings that are constantly connected with the spirit world, the unseen and the more than human. They absolutely love to work with us and support us in accessing these realms and being in relationship with them. They absolutely love supporting us with our grief, hurts and softening the heart. I so often include our plant ally friends in my teachings and offerings.

The easiest way for a plant ally to lead us to the unseen, become familiar with it and tend to our grief is through the magic of their aroma - it goes straight to the more primitive parts of the brain that are not to do with thinking or rationale, but are to do with emotions, with senses, with sacred and with spirit; with the animal body that we are.

The animal body does not think, it feels.

The animal body knows its connection with the unseen, more than human and sacred landscapes of cosmological ground.

The animal body knows soul and sacred.

In this way, through the aroma of a plant ally, the animal body can meet the plant as sacred, as spirit, as consciousness where the plant can lead the animal body in to the landscapes of unseen and tend to the grief carried.

I love exploring this individual and unique relationship with plant allies and our animal friends to support them when they transition. I also love exploring this unique and individual relationship with plant allies for our grief.

It is always done in respect. We are not using a plant or grabbing one that is "good for x." We are working with them, respectfully in relationship honouring the living consciousness they are and their willingness to work with us in what they offer for our grief. As we get to know them, we build our own unique family of plant spirit allies that specifically want to work with us for what and where we are at - they are allies for our soul work.

Whilst individual plant spirits have their own unique relationship with us, including for our grief, what I also find when it comes to grief is that there is a collected group of plant allies that wish to work together and with us for our grief.

These include the family of citrus plant allies and it excites me so much that they offer their support in this way for our grief. They want it to be known they are here and to call on them and work with them for our grief!

They desire to be with us, to call upon them and work with them when we are grieving and allow them to show us and lead us to the unseen landscapes to tend to our grief, where we can return with a magical sense of joy, of light, of aliveness, of connection.

Coupled with this, are two "gatekeepers" - one for when we enter this space and one for when we return. I so often hear the call from yarrow wanting to stand with us as a warrior and protector; allowing us safety and to safely access the unseen realms that we are venture in to.

Then, when we come back with new found clarity in some way, it is rose that so often asks and shares she will be there to meet us and welcome us back and to sit with her, bringing us love and softening the heart and hurts it holds.

To be with our grief, to enter its gates, to be in relation and access the unseen realms it resides in, developing our own unique relationship with plant allies can really help and lead us there. Even though we each have our own personal collection of plant allies that offer support for our continued soul work, the community of the citrus plant beings, along with yarrow and rose, are always on call to support us for our grief!

You can explore and find which of the citrus plant beings speaks to you the most to guide you, support you and lead you to the landscape of your grief. Allies that are included are bergamot, melissa, pink grapefruit, mandarin, sweet orange, lime, lemon verbena and lemongrass.

Of course, you may have another plant ally that is asking you to be in relation with it for your soul work, your grief and how it can lead you to be in relation with the unseen and more than human, where your grief resides.

Do you and your animal friend already have a team of plant spirit allies that you are in relation with, in what way and for what purpose? Have you worked with any for your grief and your animal friend's transition? Our animal friend's really do love being in relation with their plant spirit friends, the places they frequent and the conversations they have.

Grief comes to awaken our heart, to soften it from the hurts and hardening it carries and to know of our right relation with the unseen and more than human.

Our animal friends come to awaken our hearts in thier life and transition, to enter this terrain of grief where we can meet and know of sacred and live from an awakened heart.

We are not to avoid, fear or ignore transition and grief but allow it to take us on an unknown journey in to the unseen, meet all that is there and remember our infinite divine expression and connection with consciousness.

Our animal friends never left this place and have never left. They see our hurts and our hardened hearts and are always, always leading us to awakening our hearts so that we can fully “see” and know.

This is a journey, a medicine path that we walk through soul work, in ceremony and sacred, eventually remembering the beauty of life and transition and our relationship with the unseen and more than human through respect, responsibility and reciprocity.

What do you feel prevents you or you fear the most about your animal friend’s transition and sitting down with your grief?

I’d love to know and our animal friends would love to share how it is for them and what they can let you know about transition and grief.

We are supposed to be dreaming with sacred, conversing with the ancestors and in relationship with the more than human and unseen.

Our soul longs to be in such deep and sacred connections, reminding us of who we truly are and all we are connected to as we walk this medicine journey of life we are on.

For most, it's been so long since we conversed with sacred in these ways that we have forgotten how to do so, the importance of doing so and our commitment in doing so for the medicine we carry and bring to these times.

It can feel scary and we may fear it.

Our animal friends do not.

Our animal friends have not stepped off the path of sacred, so whilst they are in their animal body, they continue to commune, dream and be in relation with sacred, the unseen and more than human.

We and our animal friends come from these sacred landscapes and return back to them when we leave our physical body.

It is easier for our animal friends to do so because they have not separated from sacred - they have not left this space being in relation with the more than human and unseen.

When our animal friends transition, they return back to this space as a way for us to remember, explore and return to being in relation with sacred, the more than human and unseen.

When they transition, they sit in the house of the ancestors as they are an ancestor for us, both when in their physical body and when out of it. When they transition, they become spirit guide for us, leading back to being in relation with the more than human and unseen that we are to be in communion with whilst on this physical realm.

We are on a medicine journey, a medicine path to an awakened heart that our animal friends are leading us back to. Not only in their life but, more powerfully so, in their transition. Through their transition they are asking us to trustingly let them show us how to access and enter the unseen realms of sacred and remember our connection with the more than human and unseen realms as we remember the sacred that we are through our awakened heart.

Our animal friend's transition is sacred but they do not end and it does not end there. Their transition is a continuation of your medicine journey, pulling you on to the path of an awakened heart to continue your relationship with them from the unseen realms and remember your relation with the more than human, the unseen and dreaming with sacred that support you on this medicine journey; a path to your awakened heart through soul work.

28/08/2026

When our animal friend is close to leaving their animal body, or where they have already moved out of it, we can feel so helpless and that we wanted or wished we could have done more.

Unless our animal friend transitions naturally in their own way, the person who completes their transition is not usually us but a veterinarian.

In some way, we feel empty, lost and if something is missing - not only from no longer having our animal friend physically with us, but that something within us doesn't feel quite complete, that we needed to be a part of, involved in and weren't able to do.

It's as if we intuitively know that something else is needed, to be offered and done for our animal friend. Not only so that we can be and feel involved, but also so that their transition has meaning, is personal and specific to them, which creates a sense of completion in some way.

When our animal friend transitions through veterinary assistance, even though their transition has been completed, it feels anything but this. We know there is something else to be done. Even when our animal friend transitions naturally, we know there is something else to be done.

This is the honouring of our animal friend through ceremony.

Our animal friends are sacred beings. Their transition is a sacred act. Their returning to the unseen in a special and sacred moment that we can be involved in and honour them on their journey back to the land of spirit, of ancestors.

It is this part of our animal friend's transition that we intuitively know is missing and is needed, so their transition feel incomplete in some way.

In saying this, your animal friend is always with you. This is not about a completion where we no longer are in relation with our animal friend. We are infinitely in constant relation with them.

This is about a soul knowing within us that their transition requires something to make it complete by honouring them and giving their transition attention in this way.

Put aside our grief for one moment - that requires its own attention.

But when our animal friend transitions they also request one last thing that we can do for them that we feel a part of and can create in a way that has meaning, is unique and personal, giving a sense of completion in some way.

We are sacred beings, connected to sacred and we know that our animal friend's transition is sacred. It is just that we have forgotten how to honour our animal friend's transition in a sacred way, which is integral to their transition and also our being with it.

Your animal friend has not forgotten their connection with sacred, which is how they have a very different relationship and way of welcoming their transition when it comes.

You are able to connect with your animal friend so that they can share with you how they wish to be honoured when their transition comes and how to be in ceremony with this.

Their transition is a time for ceremony - to honour them, to sense their return back to the unseen realms and to remind you of the ceremonial being you are and connection with sacred.

Your animal friend's transition requires a ceremony - for them and for you. There is something about the ceremony that creates a change in how you sense and feel about their transition, your connection and how they pull you in to this space of relation.

It may feel scary, but ceremony is not something we should avoid, it is just that it is a lost and forgotten language that our soul intuitively asks, longs for and knows is needed in these sacred times such as a transition.

The beauty is, we trust our animal friends and they are not scared. They can show us, lead us and be with us in ceremony for their transition, how they welcome it and how to be honoured, and how we keep our relation with them alive, from the unseen realms they return back to.

27/08/2026

You are allowed.

How do these words land for you?

How do they make you feel and where, in your body, do you feel them?

For a long time now, I have realised and focus my support in how our animal friends are inviting us, leading us and asking us to awaken our hearts and soften the sorrows that the heart carries from all the hurts, griefs and pain we have experienced - our animal friends are leading us to our soul work in every way.

In so many ways, unconsciously, we place our own sorrows on to our animal friends. One of the deepest sorrows we carry is that we were not allowed.

We were not allowed to fully be who we are and so we place this on our animal friends.

It is almost as if we say, “I was not allowed to fully be me, so you are not allowed to fully be you.”

So, we try and restrict, control, prevent, fix or fit our animal friends in a way we believe they are allowed to be. All the while, this is a message to ourself about where we were not allowed to be fully ourselves and what parts of us were denied, not accepted, not loved.

The thing is - our animal friends don’t care. They are not afraid to fully be themselves and express innocently, truthfully, vulnerably and openly how they feel.

A dog has never stopped and said, “Ohhh…I better not do this in case I offend someone.”

But how many times do we do that?

How many times have we not expressed in a way that felt truly vulnerable, innocent or honest out of fear of offending, being criticised, being dismissed or laughed at?

Our animal friends live fully from the heart. They cannot lie or pretend.

It is this that we deeply long for in ourselves and recognise - to be vulnerable, to be innocent, to express what we truly feel, to share from the heart and to know we will be accepted regardless, rather than approved or receive another hurt.

Our animal friends do not require our approval.

Our animal friends accept themselves fully.

Our animal friends accept us fully for who we are.

What they ask is for us to fully accept ourselves and allow, that you are allowed; that you have always been allowed and to welcome back all parts of you that were denied.

The realisation that parts of who we are have been denied, dismissed, unloved or not recognised and not being allowed to fully accept ourselves can be the underlying deep sorrow that surfaces when our animal friend transitions.

Our animal friends know exactly who they are and are not afraid to express it - they love themselves unconditionally.

When they transition, there is largely an unconscious recognition, pain, hurt, realisation and sorrow that they were the only one that accepted us fully for who we are - they love us without limits or conditions.

Not only are we grieving their transition but, with this, we are also often grieving the sorrow of no longer having this acceptance and unconditional love from another.

The heart longs for us to exist as pure unconditional love, fully vulnerable, fully innocent, fully awakened - just as our animal friends do.

When the heart is fully awakened, we can begin to soften the hurts, sorrows and griefs of the heart.

When our animal friends transition, we are to grieve them, but it does not end there.

Our animal friends are still alive even when they are not in a body - they still exist and continue to love us unconditionally, reminding us to offer this unconditional love to ourselves.

When our animal friends transition, they are pulling us on to a medicine path of soul work guided by our grief.

We have been grieving for a long time, long before our animal friends transition and from the first time we were separated from sacred, from self, from soul; from the first time we were told part of us was not allowed, welcomed, loved or denied.

This is what we long for and what we see so beautifully, innocently, openly and confidently in our animal friends - that they fully allow and accept who they are.

We want that for ourselves. We long for that in ourselves.

But we feel we are not allowed and so we say to our animal friends that they are not allowed.

When they transition this is not an end. They are still with you and continue to give you this unconditional love, but in a way that does not limit you by relying, depending upon or needing this need of acceptance from them. They know that in doing so it keeps you away from the very thing they desire for you - to awaken your heart, soften the sorrows it carries and know you are allowed.

In this way, their transition is more than this. In this way, our grief is more than from their transition. Both are sacred acts that require their own attention, but that we are then to explore further by stepping on to the medicine path of our grief, led by our animal friend and awaken our hearts.

Our animal friends want us to know of our continuous infinite connection to them and relation to the more than human and unseen realms that we are part of that also already accept, love and welcome all that we are.

When they transition, because we already know, love and trust our animal friends they are asking us to trust them in leading us to remembering and knowing what it is like to be in relation again with the more than human and unseen. It is here that we continue our relationship with our animal friend from the unseen and know the they are still with us, still alive just not in a physical body.

This happens with an awakened heart as we begin to soften the sorrows it carries, the hurts, the griefs that our animal friends know we carry and want us to stop hurting; from the very first sorrow of being separated from self, soul and sacred.

Our animal friends have never left this place and, through their transition, they are inviting us back to remember what it is like when we lived in full acceptance and allowance of who we are.

We are to be in grief with their transition.

We are to be in ceremony with their transition and our grief from this as both are sacred.

But, there is something also sacred and much deeper, much greater when their transition comes and our grief from it.

This is the medicine path of their transition and your grief.

They know they are still alive and that their transition is the only way they can lead you back to being in relation with the more than human and unseen, through keeping your connection with them alive when they are out of body by awakening your heart from the griefs it carries and knowing the divine unconditional love you have always been.
