Attendance at funerals is currently limited to just a very few close family members.
So, if you see a hearse, please stop and pause for a moment as it passes, perhaps nod or bow your head as a sign of respect.
It would mean a lot to the families that we are looking after in a time of sadness and uncertainty.

Dundas Fyfe Funerals sign Fair Funerals Pledge 2020

We are pleased to announce we have committed ourselves to the new Fair Funerals pledge 2020, launched in partnership with Quaker Social Action’s Down to Earth Service.

We were proud to sign both the original pledge in 2015 and the Extended Pledge when it was introduced.

We have pledged to provide Funerals that are with people’s means as well as being open about the price of their services and payment terms.

“By speaking openly and transparently about what things cost, we will really help bereaved consumers in Scotland. We hope this will lead the way for other funeral directors who have yet to sign the pledge. We would like to see all funeral directors committed to transparent, comparable pricing to help vulnerable bereaved people avoid funeral poverty.”

James Blackburn, Head of Funerals, past Scottish Area President of the National Association of Funeral Directors and member of the Scottish Working Group on Funeral Poverty, said: “The transparency and openness of the pledge matches the openness and transparency of our principles. We take our responsibilities to bereaved people very seriously and so we are delighted to back this campaign, ensuring that they are given the best advice available at a time when they are at their most vulnerable.”

Lindesay Mace, manager of Quaker Social Action’s Down to Earth service, said: “Last year Royal London reported that the average debt taken on by those who struggle with funeral costs had increased by 14% since 2018. We frequently support clients who are confused and unclear about quotes they have been given; what costs are for, whether third party fees are included or simply what the total will be, having been told they will only get something in writing after the funeral. Clearly much more needs to be done and so the Fair Funerals pledge is continuing its activity as part of Quaker Social Action’s Down to Earth service.”

Today funeral arranger Craid Dalziel had the pleasure of attending at the Hamilton Deaf Afternoon Club, to present them with £100 as part of Scotmid Funerals Good Cause Groups.

Pictured alongside Craig and the Rev. Richard C. Durno, the clubs Chaplin and signer are members of the committee.

The club gratefully appreciated the donation, which will go a long way to organising a bus for one of the clubs day trips.
