đ 5 Tips for Overcoming Sunday Night Dread đ
Does Sunday evening bring a familiar feeling of anxiety about the week ahead? Youâre not alone. đ
âSunday night dreadâ can be a sign that something needs your attention â not something you simply have to put up with.
Here are 5 ways to gently approach it:
1ď¸âŁ Get curious about the feeling
Ask yourself: What am I actually dreading about Monday? Is it workload, expectations, a difficult relationship, or something else? Naming the feeling can help make it feel more manageable.
2ď¸âŁ Create a gentle Sunday evening routine đŻď¸
Give yourself something calming to look forward to â a walk, favourite meal, book, bath or time away from your phone. Sunday evening doesnât have to become a preparation session for Monday.
3ď¸âŁ Notice the âI shouldâŚâ thoughts
I should have done more. I should be more organised. I should be coping better.
Try speaking to yourself with the same compassion you would offer a friend. â¤ď¸
4ď¸âŁ Look for patterns đ
Sometimes our reactions to pressure in the present can be connected to earlier experiences. Perhaps you learned that mistakes werenât acceptable, that you had to achieve to feel valued, or that authority figures were difficult to please.
5ď¸âŁ Give yourself space to explore whatâs underneath đą
If Sunday night dread is persistent, psychodynamic counselling can offer a safe space to understand it more deeply.
As a psychodynamic counsellor, I can help you explore the thoughts, feelings, relationships and past experiences that may be influencing how you feel today. Together, we can begin to recognise patterns and consider different ways of responding.
You donât have to simply accept that Sundays will always feel this way. Sometimes, anxiety is an invitation to slow down and listen to what your mind is trying to tell you. đ
If Sunday evenings regularly leave you feeling anxious or overwhelmed, counselling could be a space to explore why â and begin to find a different way forward.
