⚠️ A Message About Respecting Our Staff ⚠️

Recently, we have seen an increase in incidents involving unacceptable behaviour towards our team.

Our receptionists, clinicians and administrative staff come to work each day to help and support our patients. They are doing their best in often challenging circumstances and are not responsible for issues such as appointment availability, NHS pressures or service demands.

We are not here to be abused.

Meddygfa Glan Cynon Surgery operates a Zero Tolerance Policy towards:

❌ Racism and discrimination
❌ Verbal abuse and offensive language
❌ Threatening or intimidating behaviour
❌ Harassment and bullying
❌ Physical violence
❌ Abuse via telephone, email or social media

Everyone has the right to feel safe at work. Any incidents of abuse towards staff will be taken seriously and may result in individuals being asked to leave the premises, reported to the Police, or subject to further action in line with NHS guidance.

We understand that people may feel frustrated at times, but we ask that all patients and visitors treat our team with the same respect and courtesy that they expect in return.

The team at Meddygfa Glan Cynon Surgery continues to work hard to meet the needs of our community. During July we handled:

📞 5,608 calls
🩺 5,759 appointments provided
💊 4,750 prescriptions
📨 1,534 letters/emails
📱 1,705 text messages
🩺 512 referrals
💻 1,412 digital requests

Unfortunately, 947 appointments were not attended.

Please remember that if you can no longer make your appointment, letting us know allows us to offer that slot to another patient who may be waiting for care.

Closure Afternoon Thursday 16th July!

The Surgery will be closed on the afternoon of Thursday 16th July 2026 from 1pm for clinical staff training which has been provided by Cwm Taf Morgannwg Heath Board across Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr.

From 1.00pm on the 16th July our telephone system will move to an automated message providing contact details for a covering GP team. This team will only be able to deal with urgent medical problems that cannot wait until the following day. They will not be able to deal with general enquiries.

Please remember that you should ring 999 for medical emergencies or 111 for NHS health advice.
The Surgery will be open as normal from 8:00am the following day, Friday 17th July 2026.

What is OAK?

At Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board we are offering a session called OAK (Options, Advice and Knowledge) which helps people understand and manage their osteoarthritis of the knee.
The OAK knee programme has been developed in collaboration with GP’s, Orthopaedic surgeons, Physiotherapists and people like you, who have osteoarthritis of the knee.
The 90 minute group session is delivered by specially trained physiotherapists face-to-face in the community. They offer the opportunity for people who have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee to learn more about the condition and various ways which can help you effectively manage the symptoms associated with it.
We all appreciate that people are different; we enjoy different things and have different goals in our lives. Similarly, knee osteoarthritis affects people in different ways. So finding the right treatments or management plans to suit your needs is important.
That is why at OAK we believe you should be at the centre of making the decision about how you want to manage your arthritic knee. We know that people who are involved in these decisions are more likely to engage in the treatment and to have a more successful outcome.

•OAK knee is about sharing information and experiences that will help you to make those decisions.
•We provide up to date information about osteoarthritis, what it is and what it isn’t.
•We also bring the science, which tells us which treatments are safe and effective ways of managing knee osteoarthritis.
•There is also information about what services are available locally to help you.
•Importantly, you and others can bring your own experiences of knee osteoarthritis, how it affects you and what has or hasn’t been effective in your circumstances.
By the end of an OAK session you should have a better understanding of the condition, what you want to do to manage it and how to go about getting the help you need.
