Thanks to Danny Maude for this post, Iโve been telling clients for years about the importance of hydration, the effects it has on your muscles, your strength/power and even cognitive function (decision making).
A lot of golfers donโt see it as that important due to the sport not being as high intensity to others, but itโs so important to hydrate to maintain performance throughout the round.
Thirst is the worst indicator of dehydration as it means you already are, keep topping up during your round.
Your swing isn't broken. Your body is. While you're obsessing over grip adjustments and swing planes, you're missing the real culprit behind your back 9 collapse: dehydration. Walking 18 holes burns 800-1,500 calories and costs you 1-2 liters of fluid. Even mild dehydration silently destroys your focus, slows reaction time, and kills coordination. Your grip strength drops, tempo breaks, and decision-making crawls to a halt.
Pros don't just practice swings. They build athletic foundations. They fuel their bodies, manage hydration, and protect their focus for all 18 holes. They understand golf is an endurance sport, not a casual weekend activity. When amateurs are reaching for excuses about lie angles and wind conditions, pros are reaching for water and maintaining their physical edge.
Stop chasing swing fixes and start building systems. Hydrate before, during, and after. Fuel your body like the athlete you want to be. Your swing mechanics might be fine, but if your brain is running on fumes and your muscles are dehydrated, you'll never know. The difference between a good front 9 and a disaster back 9 isn't talent. It's preparation. Treat your body like a pro, and watch your scores follow.
