🎩Get to know your Local Funeral Directors 🎩

Hello, I’m Connor McGrotty, your local Funeral Director at Porteous Family Funeral Directors.

I am proud to be part of an independent, family-owned company serving Bonnyrigg and Midlothian. This is a particularly special year for us as we celebrate 20 years of providing compassionate, professional and personalised care to families during life’s most difficult moments. Since being established in 2006 by our founder Mark Porteous – still our Managing Director – we have expanded to several locations and are today run by two generations of the Porteous family.

I joined the company three years ago. Before that, I completed a soccer scholarship in California and went on to work in another family business for eight years.

It is a privilege to be able to care for people from all walks of life, and the relationships we are able to forge gives me a real sense of achievement. I know every family values the fact that each funeral we arrange is done with dignity, respect and close attention to the family’s wishes.

My biggest honour was accomplished last year when I conducted my gran’s funeral. I was very close to her and the company encouraged me in every aspect of being able to arrange the farewell she would have wanted.

In light of recent news stories regarding funeral industry standards, we wanted to highlight our most recent The Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities - FBCA inspection: https://ow.ly/h4tL50ZvJxk

The Federation is the UK’s principal representative of burial and cremation authorities, providing a range of services to support its members' care.

Membership of the FBCA is entirely voluntary and not all crematorium operators choose to join. We take great pride in the consistently high standards we uphold across every aspect of our work, and that’s why we welcome the opportunity for our facilities and practices to be independently assessed by industry experts.

We also operate an Open Door Policy in which members of the public are able to tour our facilities to gain reassurance that their loved one will be cared for with the highest level of dignity and respect.

Here at East Lothian Crematorium & Memorial Gardens, we're hoping to start a little Grounds Library, where members of the East Lothian community can share their love of reading.

If you have any books that you've enjoyed and would like to pass on, we'd be delighted to accept them to help get our library up and running.
