HEIW is launching the NHS Wales Operational Managers Development Programme – a national programme designed to support eligible operational managers to strengthen their leadership capability, connect with colleagues across Wales and share practical approaches to improving services.

Co-produced with operational leaders and shaped by a national pilot, the programme brings together learning, collaboration and peer support across key clinical pathways.

Eisteddfod highlights power of partnership to strengthen Welsh-language in healthcare.

At this year’s Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru in Llantood, Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) teamed up with Hywel Dda Health Board, Llais Cymru, and partners across NHS Wales to highlight the vital role of Welsh-language services in health and social care.

From signing key pledges to hearing directly from patients, the message was clear: delivering care in the language of choice isn't an optional extra - it’s central to person-centred, safe, high-quality care. Through the "Active Offer" we are working together to make sure Welsh-language care is a normal, accessible part of everyday healthcare across Wales.

We are funding NHS Wales healthcare professionals to undertake MSc modules in genomics.

Would you like to feel more confident supporting conversations with patients and families about genomic healthcare?

HEIW funded places are available on the MSc module, Counselling Skills in Genetic Medicine, delivered by Cardiff University.

The module will help you develop practical skills in discussing genomic conditions, genetic testing, treatment options and what test results may mean for patients and their families.

Running from September to December, the module is designed to fit around busy clinical roles, with most learning completed online. It also includes two live online tutorials and two consecutive in-person skills practice days in Cardiff.

Know someone who could benefit? Please share this fully funded opportunity with your colleagues across NHS Wales. This opportunity may be particularly relevant for nurses working in cancer, oncology, cardiology, primary care and diabetes, especially clinical nurse specialists.
