☀️ Is your horse wearing a fly rug in this heat, or do you find they become too hot underneath?

🪰Not all fly rugs perform in the same way. The material, mesh size, breathability, thermal insulation and level of UV protection can all affect how comfortable your horse remains during warmer weather.

🔬Dr David Marlin tested a range of popular fly rugs to see how they compared. Which rug was the most breathable, and which retained the most heat?

A fab bit of cpd this weekend at the Horses Inside Out exhibition so great to see so many specimens, knowledge of their history, and so much information to go with it, and being able to touch, move and interact with the specimens gives a whole other level of understanding. Lots of revision, lots of learning and just so interesting. Highly recommend if you get the chance 😁

🐴 How Did You Choose Your Dressage Coach?

What made you say, “That’s the person I want helping me and my horse?”

Was it because they’d competed at the highest level?
Because they’d produced successful riders?
Because they’d trained with some of the biggest names in the sport?
Or simply because everyone else seemed to be riding with them?

Choosing a coach is one of the biggest decisions we make as riders. They’re not just there to tell us where to put our hands or when to half halt. They become part of our journey, helping us develop both ourselves and our horses.

Of course, experience matters. A rider who’s competed at the top brings valuable insight, and a coach with a proven track record of producing successful combinations clearly knows how to teach.

But is that everything?

Personally, I don’t think so.

Some of the best coaches I’ve met have never ridden a Grand Prix horse. They may not have had the opportunities, the finances or even the right horse, but they have an exceptional eye, a way of explaining things that just clicks, and the ability to build confidence in both horse and rider.

Teaching and riding aren’t the same skill. We’ve all seen phenomenal riders who struggle to coach, and equally, coaches who quietly transform partnerships without ever chasing the spotlight themselves.

For me, the best coach is the one who helps you understand your horse better, leaves you feeling motivated after every lesson, and gives you the confidence to keep improving.

So I’m interested…

What made you choose your coach? 🧐
Was it their competition record, their reputation, recommendations, or simply how they made you feel after that first lesson?🐴
