Music, memories and a 105th birthday celebration.
There was plenty of music, laughter and memories at The Hazelwell today, as residents enjoyed a very special afternoon of live entertainment β including a remarkable lady celebrating life at the age of 105.
The residents were treated to a performance from local singer Sheila Callaghan, who regularly visits care homes and uses her music to bring joy and companionship to older people.
Among those enjoying the afternoon was Hazelwellβs 105-year-old resident Barbara, who was joined by residents Keith and Margie, who were also celebrating their birthdays.
Sheila performed a selection of much-loved songs, from the beautiful music of Karen Carpenter to classic Doris Day favourites. For the residents, it was more than simply an afternoon of entertainment β the familiar songs brought back memories, encouraged singing along and created a wonderful opportunity to spend time together.
At 105, Hazelwellβs oldest resident has already lived through more than a century of history, while Margie and Keith were marking another special milestone of their own. Together with their fellow residents, they were able to enjoy an afternoon of songs that have stood the test of time.
It was a lovely reminder that music really can cross generations β and that birthdays and special moments are worth celebrating at every age.
The Hazelwell places a strong emphasis on activities, entertainment and wellbeing for its residents, regularly welcoming musicians and entertainers into the home. The home has previously highlighted how much residents enjoy singing, dancing and taking part in musical activities.
And today, as Karen Carpenter and Doris Day filled the room, there were smiles, memories and perhaps a few singalongs β proving that youβre never too old to enjoy a good time πΆ π€ π₯ π β€οΈ
