A huge thank you to our incredible screener, Francini, for sharing essential information about eye screening, answering questions, and conducting screenings for more than 17 individuals. The South London Diabetic Eye Screening Programme and Merton Integrated Learning Disability Team recently hosted our first joint Learning Disability Diabetic Eye Screening event at Nelson Health Centre.

The session enabled valuable collaboration to provide tailored support for people with learning disabilities, with strong engagement from carers throughout. It fostered learning, community connection, and meaningful feedback to help improve service accessibility.

Thank you to the Merton Integrated Learning Disability Team for their vital contribution, our screener Bartholomew for his expertise, and our Communications Officer, Programme Manager, and Clinical Lead for delivering an insightful and engaging presentation.

This is known as diabetes stigma, and it has significant and harmful consequences for millions of individuals.

We are therefore committed to a ‘Strike Out Stigma’ initiative. Our objective is to reinforce that diabetes is not a personal choice, nor is it an individual failing.
