It might sound like a small question to an adult, but to a child preparing to start a new school, it can feel enormous.

For some children, the thought of walking into a new classroom, approaching a group of children or trying to make new friends can create genuine anxiety.

They might become quieter.

They might tell you they don't want to go.

They might suddenly complain of tummy aches or struggle to sleep.

And as a parent, it can be incredibly hard to watch because you can't walk into that classroom with them and make everything okay.

What you can do is help them feel more confident in themselves before they get there.

Talk about what they're worried about rather than immediately trying to reassure them that everything will be fine.

Help them recognise the difference between a thought and a fact.

Remind them that they don't need to become best friends with everyone on the first day.

And most importantly, help them understand that feeling nervous does not mean they are incapable.

Sometimes confidence isn't about making the worry disappear. It's about knowing that you can feel nervous and still take that next step.

That is exactly the kind of emotional confidence I want to help children develop through Positive Pants.

If your child is worrying about friendships, transition or the return to school, our Online Wellbeing Course is a lovely way to start exploring those feelings together before September arrives.

If you're a parent in West Bridgford and you've started thinking about the return to school, you might already have that familiar knot in your stomach.

Maybe you're wondering how your child is going to cope with moving from primary to secondary school.

Maybe they're worried about making new friends, getting lost, finding their way around or simply fitting in.

Or perhaps you're lying awake wondering whether they'll tell you when something is wrong, or whether they'll keep those worries to themselves.

I know how difficult that can feel as a parent.

You want to make everything easier for them, but you can't take every worry away. What you can do is help them build the emotional tools and confidence they need to face those worries.

That might mean helping them recognise what anxiety feels like in their body, finding the words to explain how they feel, learning ways to manage big emotions or simply knowing that asking for help is okay.

You don't have to wait until September to start those conversations.

The Positive Pants Online Wellbeing Course gives you an opportunity to spend some time together exploring emotions, confidence and resilience before the new school year begins.

It is something you can work through together during the holidays, at a pace that works for your family.

If back-to-school worries are already starting to creep into your household, take a look at the course and see how Positive Pants could support you.

When watching European Athletics recently, I noticed something that all the athletes do before they start their competition…

You can watch them all looking at the challenge ahead, and one simple thought is going through their mind; it’s written all over their face…

They’re thinking: “I can do this”

That’s where they all start. By thinking that they can do what many of us deem impossible.

I found myself thinking, as I watched them, that this is something we can all adopt in everyday life. We can do hard things if we only think we can.

So the next time you are faced with a difficult day, a challenge you hadn’t anticipated, take a breath and think, “I can do hard things”.

You might find that task just got a little easier.

And if you’re looking for more affirmations and subtle shifts to help with your emotional resilience, make sure you’re signed up for my newsletter to receive messages like this one directly to your inbox every week.

When I set Positive Pants up, I wanted to help parents have a better emotional understanding of their children. Better than what I had with my parents as a teenager.

I knew that I had to work with parents and children before they reached the state of mental anguish that I did in my teenage years.

I started working with families on a 1:1 basis, and I made a massive impact on the families I was working with. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.

I knew that there was more that I could offer. That I could help more families.

So, I started working on my online course.

Because if I could help more families, I could make a bigger, better, more positive impact on the world.

That’s why I designed a course that parents could work on in their own time, with activities that they could do without me.

I then realised that there was more that I could give. So, with Positive Pants CIC, for every online course purchased from my website, I donate a course to a family that needs it.

Two courses for the price of one.

That means that if you’re like me and know that children’s emotional awareness is important, you can help a family to improve theirs by helping yours.

Book your online course through my website and help more families to become closer and emotionally resilient.

Is there an unknown tension building in your house right now?

With back-to-school being right around the corner, it’s normal for anxiety and nerves to show up in different ways in your home.

And if your little one is moving on to “big school”, those nerves can be even higher.

The thing that’s important to realise is that the first step to overcoming those feelings is to acknowledge them in the first place. Name exactly how you feel and what’s causing it.

If you’ve noticed that tempers are shorter, food desires are changing, sleep patterns are out the window, and everything else that gets affected by stress… the time to act is now.

My online course is perfect for the last few days of the holidays when both parents and children are feeling the pressure. It will give you time to sit with your little ones and learn emotional honesty.

Because you can’t start to change the pattern if you don’t first acknowledge that it’s there.

You don’t have to accept the tension, stress and worry. You can make a positive impact.

Visit our website and sign up for the online course today.
