Have you ever noticed something funny?
Someone leaving massage room after good massage session...
You hand them a spiky massage ball. Or ask them to stand on an acupressure mat at home. Or spend a couple of minutes working on areas that feel surprisingly sensitive.
And they look at you as if to say,
"Hang on.....I'm paying you to make me comfortable, not to torture me."
Fair question.
But here's the interesting bit. Your body isn't just muscles.
It's information.
Imagine trying to park your car.....while all the windows are covered.
You might eventually manage it.
But it won't be easy and smooth.
Now imagine someone cleared those windows. Same driver. Same car. Completely different result.
Your brain works in a very similar way.
Every second, it's asking one simple question:
"Where is the body right now?"
Not where it was five minutes ago.
Right now.
It gets that information from thousands of tiny sensors in your muscles, joints, skin and connective tissue.
The clearer the information... The better your brain can organise movement.
The smoother you move.
The better your balance.
The less unnecessary tension your body creates.
So why do therapists use massage balls, textured surfaces, stretching, rubbing or gentle pressure?
Because we're not just working on muscles.
We're waking up the body's communication system. We're giving the brain better information.
And here's the part most people don't realise...
The brain is incredibly clever.
But it can only make decisions based on the information it receives.
If the information is poor... The movement usually becomes poor as well.
Think about it.
Have you ever tried typing while your internet connection keeps cutting out?
The computer isn't broken.
It's working with incomplete data.
Your body does exactly the same.
That's also why balance exercises can feel surprisingly difficult.
Standing on one leg.
Closing your eyes.
Slow, controlled movements.
People often laugh and say,
"That looks like something they do in primary school."
Exactly.
Children do it because that's how the nervous system learns.
Adults avoid it because it looks too easy.
Then they're surprised when they struggle with balance, stiffness or recurring aches.
Your body doesn't need complicated. It needs clear information.
Sometimes the biggest improvement doesn't come from working harder...
It comes from helping your brain understand your body a little better.
I'm curious...
Have you ever been given an exercise that looked ridiculously simple.....but turned out to be much harder than you expected? Share it with us in the comments!

Pain between your shoulder blades? Rounded shoulders? Struggling to keep good form in the gym? Your rhomboid muscles might be trying to tell you something.

Most people have never even heard of their rhomboids.....until they start causing trouble.
These muscles sit between your shoulder blades, underneath the trapezius, and their job is simple but incredibly important.
They help pull your shoulder blades back, keep them stable and support good posture.
In other words...
They're part of what helps you stand tall instead of looking like you've spent the last ten years glued to a laptop.
So what goes wrong?
Modern life isn't particularly kind to the rhomboids.
Hours at a desk. Driving. Looking down at your phone. Or spending every gym session chasing a bigger bench press while forgetting the muscles that should balance everything out.
The chest muscles become tighter. The muscles between the shoulder blades become weaker. The shoulders gradually roll forwards.
And before long...
Your posture changes without you even noticing.
What might you feel?
* An aching pain between the shoulder blades.
* Tenderness along the inside edge of the shoulder blade.
* A feeling that you constantly need to stretch your upper back.
* Clicking or crunching when moving your shoulders.
* Difficulty sitting comfortably for long periods.
Sometimes people even notice tingling or numbness in the arm. While there are several possible causes, tight muscles around the shoulder and chest can occasionally contribute by placing extra pressure on nearby nerves. That's one reason it's worth getting persistent symptoms properly assessed rather than simply ignoring them.
Why posture matters
When your shoulders stay rounded for long periods, your upper back has to work much harder than it was designed to. Breathing can feel less comfortable.
The neck often joins the party. Then headaches arrive...
And somehow everyone blames the pillow.
The good news?
Weak muscles usually aren't lazy. They've simply stopped being used properly.
A combination of targeted strengthening, improving mobility through the chest and shoulders, paying attention to posture, and hands-on treatment such as massage can often make a real difference.
Your body doesn't expect perfection. It simply responds to what you do most often.
So here's my question for you...
Have you ever caught yourself rubbing the spot between your shoulder blades at the end of a long day?
If so, your rhomboids may have been trying to get your attention for quite some time.

Sometimes I really do wonder how we have made unhealthy habits look so normal…..while treating healthy ones as if they're somehow a bit odd.
Here you go.
Stepping outside for a cigarette break?
Perfectly normal.
No one blinks an eye if someone disappears multiple times a day to go stand out in the rain with a cigarette.
But stand up, stretch for five minutes, or take a walk...
"What are you doing?"
"Trying out for the Olympics?"
"Bit keen, aren't you?"
Having a few drinks at a work do?
Completely expected.
Say, "No thanks, I'm not drinking tonight."
Suddenly everyone becomes a detective.
"Driving?"
"On medication?"
"Go on... just have one."
Meanwhile, quietly carrying a bottle of water everywhere...
Somehow that makes you look like the weird one.
Getting four or five hours' sleep? People almost wear it like a badge of honour.
"I'm shattered... Only had 4 hours."
As if exhaustion has become a competition.
But saying,
"I'm heading to bed early tonight."
Oh, don't be such a bore.
Living with a stiff back... Always feeling tired... Powered by caffeine...
We shrug and we say,
"That's just life."
"That’s aging."
"That's work."
Yet making time to move your body... Taking a walk... Breathing properly... Taking care of yourself. . .
Apparently that's "being a little too serious about health."
And this is the point where I always stop and ask myself one simple question.
Who decided it was normal to wear yourself out.....but somehow it's weird to take care of yourself?
Your body doesn't care about what's in fashion. It does not care what society says is right.
It just reflects the way you treat it.
It keeps score. It remembers the ci******es. The hours of sitting still.
The stress. The late nights.
But it remembers the walks, too. The good nights of sleep. The glass of water. The moments you actually listened to it.
For me, caring about your body isn’t about being obsessive.
It's basic self-respect.
Just like brushing your teeth. Just like washing your hands.
So I'm curious...
What is still considered "a bit strange" but is actually healthy?
And what's something obviously harmful that society has somehow decided is perfectly fine?
I'd love to hear your examples.

Cod Liver Oil: Remember That Spoonful? Well… Science Has Been Hard at Work.

Okay, let's face it.
If you grew up in the 70s or 80s, chances are someone chased you around the kitchen with a spoonful of cod liver oil.
Your mom. Your nan. Or both.
In those days, nobody asked if you liked it.
You took it because it was good for you.
End of story.
And you know what?
No one questioned it for years.
Then something interesting happened.
Science did what science was supposed to do. It kept asking questions.
Because unlike your uncle on Facebook, science doesn't marry its opinions.
It changes them when new evidence comes to light.
Now before anyone freaks out and throws their fish oil capsules in the bin...
Chill.
This is not one of those everything-you've-ever-known-is-a-lie stories.
It’s actually a lot more interesting than that.
So, what's changed?
For years, omega-3 was the golden child.
> Healthy heart? Take omega-3.
> Healthy brain? Take omega-3.
> Joints? Omega-3.
> Mood? Omega-3.
> Bad haircut? Someone probably suggested omega-3 for that as well.
Then researchers carried on doing what researchers do.
They did bigger studies. Longer studies. Better studies.
And they found something unexpected.
Among those taking high doses of omega-3 supplements, there appeared to be a slight increase in the odds of developing atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rhythm.
Notice what I didn't say.
I never said fish is dangerous. I didn't say cod liver oil is poisonous.
And I never said your mum was trying to ruin your childhood.
Here's what I said:
Sometimes even things that are generally good for us are not entirely without risk.
Especially at high doses.
Funny, eh? We understand this perfectly with chocolate. Too much? Not so great. Coffee? Same story. Sunshine? Lovely... unless you stay out all day without suncream.
But when it comes to supplements people suddenly think:
If one capsule is good.....surely four must be brilliant.
That’s not the way biology works. That’s the way marketing works.
Does this mean omega-3 is useless?
Of course not.
That's another extreme. And people absolutely love extremes.
Yesterday:
Omega-3 cures everything.
Today:
Omega-3 is dangerous.
Tomorrow:
Someone on social media will likely tell you celery juice cures both.
In reality, it is less dramatic.
The health benefits of Omega-3 are still known.
Oily fish is still recommended in a healthy diet.
There are people who benefit from prescribed omega-3 treatment.
The important bit is this:
Benefits and risks can exist at the same time. Life is awkward like that.
Here's what really interests me...
We spend so much time looking for that one magic pill.
One magic exercise. One magic diet. One magical massage. One magic something.
Meanwhile the body continues to react to the same boring habits that it always liked:
* Move regularly.
* Sleep properly.
* Eat real food.
* Manage stress.
* Don't smoke.
* Maintain a healthy weight.
Hardly front-page stuff, is it?
But that’s the annoying thing about being healthy. It's not much of a thrill.
So what's the lesson?
It wasn’t that cod liver oil was a mistake. It’s not that omega-3 has suddenly become the bad guy.
The lesson is much simpler.
When someone tells you they’ve found the one thing that will change your health…
Wait. Smile. Then ask:
What is the latest evidence actually showing?
Because good science isn’t about proving that we were right.
It’s about getting a bit closer to the truth.
And unlike marketing...
Science is pretty comfortable with not having all the answers.

This is one of my favourite sentences:
"It's just my age." Possibly.
However, the number of birthdays you've had doesn't really matter to your body.
It asks different questions.
> Are you moving?
No.
> Do you get enough sleep?
Not really.
> Are you getting enough water?
Perhaps not.
> Are you stressed out all day?
Yes.
People then blame ageing. Sometimes it is age.
Very often...
It's routine.
Time cannot be stopped.
But you can absolutely change the habits that make time feel heavier.
And that's where the real transformation starts.
