Rehab shouldn’t just get you out of pain. It should prepare you for what comes next.

Getting someone pain-free is only part of the job.

The next question is:

Can your body actually cope with what you want to do?

That’s where we start bridging the gap between rehab and performance.

In this session we’re using:

⚡ Drop jumps developing the ability to absorb force, react and produce force quickly.

💪 Kettlebell swings building explosive hip strength, power and confidence moving at speed.

🔄 Walking lunges with rotation challenging single-leg strength, control and movement through multiple planes.

None of these exercises are there just to make someone tired.

Every exercise should have a reason. Every progression should have a purpose.

Because successful rehab isn’t simply:

Pain ➡️ No pain.

It’s:

Pain ➡️ Movement ➡️ Strength ➡️ Capacity ➡️ Performance.

That’s how we help people get back to training, sport and the things they enjoy stronger and better prepared for what their body needs to do.

Fix Pain. Keep Training. Stay Active.

Pain-free isn’t the finish line. Being ready to perform is. 🏉

This is what the end stages of rehab should look like.

Former rugby player, now player-coach, finishing off his rehab after putting together a strong pre-season with us.

We’ve progressed from restoring movement and strength to developing the power, speed and confidence he needs to get back on the pitch.

Here he’s working through box jumps and hang cleans building explosive power and making sure his body is prepared for the demands of rugby.

At Vortex, rehab isn’t just about getting you out of pain.

It’s about bridging the gap between rehab, training and performance so you can get back to doing what you enjoy and trust your body when you do it.

Fix Pain. Keep Training. Stay Active.

The biggest mistake I see after an injury isn’t the injury itself… it’s what people stop doing because of it.

Pain can make us avoid the things we love—whether that’s running, training, playing golf or simply kicking a ball around with our kids.

Sometimes rest is the right answer. But more often, the key is understanding why it hurts and having the confidence to move in the right way.

Don’t let fear of movement become a bigger problem than the injury itself.

💬 What’s one activity you’ve stopped doing because of pain?

Watching my son play football this morning Got me thinking

One of the greatest gifts we have is the freedom of movement

When were children we don’t even think about it

We run, we jump we move we hit the floor we bounce back up and we don’t overanalyse any aches, pains or little niggles

as adults that often changes

Over the last 15 years I’ve been looking after Work within elite Sports. I managed to maintain a 85 to 95% availability rate for the first team.

This is not built around athlete spending the entire season injury free and pain-free it’s knowing the difference between what we can enter the pitch with and the difference between elite level performance and injury.

This is something I’ve done well throughout my career and now bring this to the general public to help you return back to Sport or playing with the kids in order to enjoy the freedom of movement that you once had when you’re a child.

Protect your freedom to move it’s one of the greatest investments you’ll ever make in yourself.

“Bad backs run in my family…”

I hear this all the time.

And I understand why people believe it.

Maybe your mum has always had back pain. Your dad struggles with it too. Before you know it, you start thinking…

“I suppose it’s just in my genes.”

The truth is, for most people, it isn’t that simple.

What often runs in families are our habits, how active we are, how we react when pain starts and what we’ve been told to believe about our backs.

That doesn’t mean you’re destined to live with back pain forever.

I’ve worked with people who thought they had a “bad back” for years, only to realise that with the right advice, the right exercises and a bit of confidence, they could get back to lifting, running, playing sport or simply enjoying life again.

If your back keeps flaring up, don’t assume it’s just something you have to put up with.

Sometimes all it takes is understanding why it’s happening.

💬 I’d love to know… Have you ever been told your back pain is “just hereditary”? Let me know in the comments.

Recovery isn’t one exercise. It’s a process.

One of the biggest mistakes people make during rehabilitation is thinking there’s one exercise or one treatment that will fix everything.

The reality?

Recovery is about applying the right stimulus at the right time and building layer upon layer until you’re stronger than before.

Today’s session followed a clear progression:

🟠 Compex-Assisted Knee Extensions
Using neuromuscular electrical stimulation to improve quadriceps activation and restore strength when it’s difficult to fully recruit the muscle voluntarily.

🟠 Bridge with Band Around the Knees
Building glute strength and hip stability to create a stronger foundation for movement.

🟠 Isometric Dead Bug Hold
Developing trunk stiffness and core control to improve force transfer and movement efficiency.

🟠 Blood Flow Restriction Knee Extensions
Finishing with BFR to maximise strength and muscle adaptations using lighter loads while minimising stress on the knee.

Every exercise has a purpose.

Every stage builds on the last.

Our aim isn’t just to reduce pain.

It’s to restore strength, improve movement quality and give you the confidence to return to doing what you enjoy—whether that’s football, rugby, padel or simply living an active life.

At Vortex, we don’t guess.

We assess, build and progress every programme around the individual in front of us.

Because rehabilitation isn’t about getting back to where you were.

It’s about building a body that’s better prepared for what’s next.

“Why am I more sore after training… if I’m supposed to be getting stronger?”

Because that’s exactly how your body adapts.

Whether you’re recovering from injury, training for your next season or simply trying to get stronger, progress doesn’t happen while you’re lifting the weight.

It happens afterwards.

Every training session creates stress.

For a short period your performance actually drops. You feel fatigued, sore and maybe even question whether you’re improving.

But if the load is appropriate and you recover well through sleep, nutrition and movement, your body adapts.

You don’t just return to where you started.

You come back stronger.

This is known as the load compensation (or supercompensation) curve, and it’s one of the fundamental principles behind everything we do at Vortex.

The challenge is finding the sweet spot.

❌ Too little load and your body has no reason to adapt.

❌ Too much, too soon and you increase your risk of overload, setbacks and injury.

✅ The right load, applied consistently, builds stronger muscles, tendons, ligaments and confidence.

Whether you’re returning from an ACL injury, managing tendon pain, preparing for pre-season or simply wanting to move better, success isn’t about one perfect session.

It’s about consistently applying the right load at the right time.

Progress isn’t always obvious day to day.

But if you stay patient and trust the process, the results take care of themselves.

RECOVERY IS WHERE YOU GET BETTER.

Everyone talks about the training.

Very few people talk about the recovery that allows you to train again tomorrow.

At Vortex, we use Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Recovery Cycling to help athletes recover smarter between demanding sessions.

By combining low-intensity cycling with personalised BFR pressures, we can stimulate the body’s natural recovery processes while placing minimal stress on joints and healing tissues.

BFR Recovery Cycling may help:

✅ Reduce post-training muscle soreness

✅ Promote blood flow and tissue recovery

✅ Maintain muscle during periods of reduced loading

✅ Support recovery following injury or surgery

✅ Get you ready for your next training session sooner

Whether you’re in the middle of pre-season, returning from injury or simply looking to recover more effectively, recovery shouldn’t be an afterthought.

It’s part of the programme.

Train hard. Recover smarter. Perform better.
