Does acupuncture hurt? This is one of the most common questions when people are curious about trying acupuncture. I don’t think so and I can demonstrate how tiny and delicate the needles are by showing they don’t even burst a ballon / latex glove. The tissues close around the needle which is an activation to your system instigating healing. Acupuncture is amazing!

National Geographic just published an article on acupuncture and pain. In short, scientists can now watch in real time as needling activates immune cells, shifts brain activity, and releases the body’s own pain modulating chemicals. In one trial it outperformed IV morphine, with no side effects to boot!! It’s great to see the science backing up what we acupuncturists know!

Today’s tea intro: Mullein & thyme. These herbs have been used for centuries to support the lungs. From a Chinese medicine perspective they make a beautifully balanced pair: mullein moistens and soothes, thyme warms and shifts, so together they support you to restore easy, comfortable breathing. Whether you’re fighting off a cold, shaking a lingering cough, or just giving your lungs some love, this is a tea worth knowing about.

Introducing two more teas; Liver great for liver disharmony, detoxification and headaches and Cleanse which is also a liver tonic combined with Artichoke and Dandelion root to help with digestive issues such as bloating and improving urinary function. Both can help in the unfortunate situation of a hangover!!

Introducing the JOINT tea with cucurmin & piperine. If you come to Accupuncture for arthritis, tennis elbow knee op recovery or any other joint issue, you can support your healing by drinking this tea alongside your treatment.

I am so excited to finally be stocking NutraTea here at Appleyard Acu. These are functional herbal teas that actually do something, and they sit beautifully alongside the work we do in clinic. I’ve chosen ten blends that I genuinely believe in & regularly use myself. These teas work from the inside out, supporting your body’s own ability to heal, which is exactly what I’m all about! You can now pick them up when you come in for your treatment (cheaper than buying online too!). I will be sharing more about each one over the coming weeks.

Today I was grateful to spread the magic of Chinese Medicine at the Women’s Health Optimisation Summit organised by held a beautiful 18th Century Listed Hotel in Berkshire. I talked about Gua Sha and guided a group facial ritual using rose quartz stones. There were loads of wonderful talks and demonstrations. What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday.
