Going the extra mile to make special moments possible.

Some moments in life are simply too important to miss - and sometimes, a little creativity, kindness and care can make all the difference.

Our Care Manager, Jade, recently helped one of our clients, Martin, be part of his daughter Claire’s wedding day, despite him being unable to attend in person.

Knowing how much the wedding meant to Martin, Jade suggested finding a way for him to join the celebrations virtually. She worked with Claire and her best friend to arrange a FaceTime video call, helping Martin watch as his daughter walked down the aisle. He was also able to see his grandson take part in the ceremony. ️

For Martin, it meant being able to share in a hugely important family moment - and raise a glass of his favourite tipple in celebration. For Claire, it meant knowing her dad could still be there in his own special way.

Claire later told Jade:

"I can't tell you what it meant to me and I'm sure to Dad too. I appreciate you greatly."

And this is exactly what great care is about. It isn't always just about the care we provide during a visit - it's about knowing the person, listening to what matters to them, and sometimes going that extra mile to help them stay connected to the people and moments they love.

Jade, we are incredibly proud of you. What a wonderful example of compassionate, person-centred care.

At Home Instead, we are not "just carers" - more like Highly Skilled Professionals.

When people think about home care, they might picture someone helping with meals, getting dressed or keeping the house tidy.

But professional home care is so much more than that.

Our Care Professionals are highly trained and continually develop their skills so they can provide safe, knowledgeable and person-centred care tailored to the individual needs of every client.

From Moving & Handling, Medication and Basic Life Support, to Dementia, Safeguarding, Mental Capacity, Infection Control and Fire Safety, our Care Professionals complete extensive mandatory training.

And where a client's individual needs require it, they receive additional specialist training, which can include catheter care, Parkinson's, stoma care, PEG care, diabetes, epilepsy, stroke awareness, palliative and end-of-life care, and much more.

👩‍⚕️ Care at home takes skill.
📚 It takes knowledge.
❤️ It takes compassion.
💚 And it takes a commitment to doing things properly.

So when you choose professional home care, you're not simply choosing someone to "help out".

You're choosing a trained professional who understands how to provide safe, compassionate and skilled care in the place you call home.

Our care isn’t just about staying in your home… it’s about helping you get out and enjoy life too.

We recently had the pleasure of accompanying our lovely client Jane on a day out to the beautiful Stowe Gardens.

Getting out and about, exploring new places and enjoying a change of scenery can make such a difference to our wellbeing - and we love being able to support our clients to do just that. A day out like this is fun for our clients and our care team too!

Stowe is also wonderfully accessible, with mobility vehicles available to hire free of charge, making it much easier for people with limited mobility to enjoy the grounds and take in the beautiful surroundings.

It was a lovely day out for Jane, and a great reminder that care is about so much more than what happens at home. It's about supporting people to continue doing the things they enjoy and making memories along the way.

This month's Care Pro Appreciation goes to.... Betty & Thyon!

The office team were all singing Betty’s praises, saying she is always obliging, cheerful, and always happy to help. They also mentioned that Betty accepts client visits at short notice, which is always extremely helpful. Thank you Betty for being such a helpful team member and for providing “perfect” care!

Thyon, received a nomination from a client’s family – as always, thank you to our clients for taking the time to message us with your lovely feedback. They said Thyon, and their live-in carer, provide “truly outstanding, person-centred care”.

They went on to say,

“They provide unparalleled patience, empathy, and resilience. They have taken the time to understand our loved ones background, preferences, and triggers, and they consistently adapt their approach to ensure he feels respected and in control of his daily life.

They have patiently encouraged him to achieve his aspirations in getting into a wheelchair, going outside and living beyond his living room/bedroom which is a significant and wonderful achievement.

They always ensure his dignity is at the forefront of their care. They go the extra mile by ensuring he is stimulated, comfortable, and emotionally supported, proving kindness can overcome any barrier.”

Well done to both Betty and Thyon on the wonderful work you do – everyone at Home Instead, our clients and their loved ones appreciate the outstanding work you do each day.

Our two monthly recipients received a voucher and flowers as a thank you for consistently delivering the high standards our clients value and expect from Home Instead. Watch out for next month’s newsletter to see who receives the next Care Pro Appreciation – “it could be you!”
