Visiting Bahá’í Friends in Almaty, kazakhstan 🇰🇿

Recently, two members of the Newbury Bahá’í community had the opportunity to travel to Almaty, Kazakhstan, where they were warmly welcomed by Bahá’í friends in the city.

From the moment they arrived, they were welcomed by friends with big hearts who made them feel at home. They were invited to a Feast, where they shared prayers, conversations and fellowship. The friends also kindly took them on a tour of the city, giving them the chance to discover Almaty and experience some of its beautiful places and delicious foods.💖

Anisa, a member of our Newbury Bahá’í community, has shared a video she made in Brazil about Junior Youth empowerment, inspired by the Bahá’í teachings. This could be a valuable resource for our communities, especially when we have a Junior Youth group or an event where we can invite others to learn more about the programme.

A visit to the Bahá’í Centre in Portimão, Portugal 🇵🇹

It is always heartwarming to see how the bonds of friendship and fellowship extend far beyond the boundaries of our local communities.
Two of our members recently had the opportunity to visit the Bahá’í Centre in Portimão, Portugal, where they joined a prayer meeting and met beautiful souls, sharing in a warm and uplifting atmosphere of devotion and friendship.✨

What if a story could do more than entertain a child? What if it could become a quiet companion, something they return to when they need courage, kindness, or a reminder of what really matters?

This is the spirit behind the Anis Foundation, whose name itself means “a companion or a friend.” One of its most engaging collections is The Master: Stories of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá for Children, narrated by Sarah Perceval.

In a world filled with noise, perhaps children need stories that leave something behind after the listening ends, a question, a feeling, an example to follow.

Our August Prayers & Pancakes gathering was a beautiful opportunity to come together and reflect on what connects us as human beings. 🙏🥞

This month, we explored the theme of our shared humanity and why it matters so much in today’s world. With people from different backgrounds, ages, and walks of life, we shared our thoughts on what it means to look beyond the things that separate us and recognise the common hopes, challenges, and aspirations that we all share.

As always, thank you to everyone who joined us, shared their thoughts, and helped create such a warm and meaningful space. We look forward to coming together again next month for more prayers, conversations, and, of course, pancakes!

More than 400 young people from across the UK and Ireland came together this July for a national youth conference to reflect on how they can contribute to building a more just, united and hopeful society. We are also delighted that Anisa, from the Newbury Bahá’í community, took part in the conference.

The gathering created a space for young people from diverse backgrounds to explore questions of purpose, friendship, education, service and community life. Rather than seeing young people simply through the challenges they face today, the conference focused on their capacity to become agents of positive change and to contribute meaningfully to the life of their communities. 🌿

A wonderful course taught by our dear Anthony Fleming at the 2026 Bahá’í Summer School in Devon, bringing friends together for a rich and inspiring learning experience. A beautiful opportunity to explore new ideas, deepen our understanding, and enjoy meaningful conversations and connections along the way.

Mahvash Sabet is an award-winning educator and poet. She has been in and out of detention since 2010, suffering solitary confinement and psychological torture. Alongside the harshness in jail, Mahvash writes about resilience and friendship. One of those she shared a prison ward with for almost a year is Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe - who was herself imprisoned and held hostage by the Iranian State for six years. Julie speaks to Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe and Bahiyyih Nakhjavani who translated the memoir Open Wide the Doors into English.
