What’s the difference?
🔹 Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Compression of the median nerve at the wrist.
🔹 Peripheral Nerve Entrapment
Compression or irritation of a nerve anywhere along its path—including the neck, shoulder, elbow, forearm, or wrist.
Symptoms can overlap:
Tingling or numbness
Burning or aching pain
Hand weakness
Dropping objects
Symptoms that worsen with repetitive activity
Clues it may be a broader nerve problem:
❌ Pain travels up the arm ❌ Neck or shoulder discomfort is present ❌ Symptoms affect the ring or little finger ❌ Wrist braces haven’t helped ❌ Symptoms change with neck or arm position
As chiropractors, we evaluate the entire nerve pathway, not just the wrist. Joint restrictions, muscle tension, posture, and repetitive strain can all contribute to nerve irritation.
Treating the wrist alone may not solve the problem if the nerve is being compressed elsewhere.
A proper examination can help determine where the nerve is being irritated and why.
If you’ve been struggling with hand
numbness, tingling, or weakness, don’t ignore it. Early evaluation can help prevent symptoms from becoming more persistent.
