Most people only know one thing about breathing:
you inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide.
But there’s a hidden part of this story that almost no one talks about.
Did you know that inside your nasal sinuses your body produces a powerful gas called nitric oxide (NO) every time you breathe through your nose?
This gas:
- widens your blood vessels and improves circulation
- helps your cells use oxygen more efficiently
- supports your energy levels
- plays a key role in your immune defence
When you mostly breathe through your mouth, you:
- miss out on nitric oxide
- get less efficient oxygen delivery
- put more stress on your cardiovascular system
- may weaken one of your natural defence mechanisms
Nasal breathing isn’t just a “detail” — it’s a built‑in performance and health upgrade.
As a coach at Sound Mind and Body gym, Benton, I see every day how changing how you breathe can change how you feel, move and perform — both in and out of the gym.
If you train with me, expect to work not only on muscles, but also on smarter breathing.
