Wednesday was a very special day as Rosie came to Barnability to say goodbye before heading off to university. ❤️

I have been coaching Rosie for many, many years and in that time we have had so many adventures together.

Rosie has always been part of our adventure days and is one of those people who is always keen to support everyone else, often putting other people’s needs before her own.

We took part in the wheelbarrow race together, which paved the way for the inclusive Ability Wave that now takes place yearly in Ponteland. 🌊

We raised money together for her youth club by taking on a tandem bike ride, I’ve watched her receive awards, and even seen her head into the radio studio to speak with Anna Foster. There have been so many brilliant moments along the way.

Now Rosie is off to Glasgow to start university, and I know she is going to have the most amazing time. I have no doubt she will create many more positive experiences—not only for herself, but for all those lucky enough to cross paths with her.

Keep smiling, Rosie, and have the best time! 💕
We can’t wait to see you when you’re home. 🥰

What a special start to the week! 🛶💚

It was the turn of our Monday coaches to head out on their kayak trip up the river — but this time there was a little twist… we took the Barn Mobility crew with us too! 🙌

Our trainee coaches work hard and train hard so they can enjoy opportunities like these, so we thought… why not take their clients along and enjoy it together?

This was two communities coming together, getting outside, being active and having a brilliant time away from the gym. 🌊☀️

A huge thank you to the Coquet Shorebase Trust for accommodating all our needs and putting on such a fantastic outing. You made it possible for everyone to get involved — and, most importantly, everyone came away smiling! 😊

This is exactly what Barnability is all about. 💚

Yikes… this time tomorrow I’ll be absolutely kacking my pants! 😂

Race start is 7.30am and I genuinely have no idea how long it’s going to take. Tomorrow’s main focus is simply staying upright and protecting the ankle! 🤞

I discovered yesterday that I can’t actually bike in an ankle support, so that will be going on only for the mountain leg… which should be interesting! 😬

A huge thank you for all the donations so far for Barnability. 🥰

The last 18 months have been a whirlwind. I’ve worked incredibly hard to get the charity off the ground, but that has meant very little free time to train for the events I genuinely love doing.

So tomorrow is probably going to be a day of suffering… 😂

But if I’m going to suffer, I may as well turn that suffering into some much-needed funds for Barnability! ❤️

🎂 TWO BIRTHDAYS = DOUBLE THE FUN! 🎂

Not one, but TWO volunteer birthdays to celebrate at Run Club last night! 🥳

So what better game than Chase the Birthday People! 🏃‍♀️💨



The birthday pair had to run ahead, tag an objective, then race back to the meeting point.

If the Barnability runners got there first, the birthday pair had to do 10 push-ups! 😂

We’ve never seen so much enthusiasm — although I’m pretty sure Ruth and Jo were enjoying it far more than the birthday pair! 🤣

This was Jo’s only training run before her event this weekend due to her ankle sprain. She only has to get up and down Scafell Pike! 😳

Flying Solo 🪽

Not often this happens, but Coach Alex was flying solo yesterday — and he absolutely loved every minute of it! 🙌

Alex devised the whole session for our Barnmobility crew, including using the lights in both the warm-up and main set. He even chose the teams himself!

The session was a brilliant mixture of:

⚖️ Balance
❤️ Cardio
💪 Core

And, of course, there was plenty of laughter along the way! 😂

Well done, Coach Alex — what a fantastic achievement. It’s brilliant to see your confidence growing and watching you take ownership of your coaching. You should be very proud! 👏

A Big Shout Out to Lawson’s Fuses! 🎉

A big shout out to Lawson’s Fuses, part of the Lucy Group, who are very local to us here in Ponteland! 💚

They popped in on Monday to see our trainee coaching session in full swing — and, of course, we couldn’t let them just watch! We got them involved in a game of co****le. 😆

Lawson’s Fuses love supporting charities, especially those making a difference in their local community, and they very kindly gifted Barnability £250 to help us continue doing what we do. They also brought along a fantastic teddy bear, who will be looking for a new home at our Awards Night on November 28th! 🧸

Can You Be Our Next Coach? 💚

Do you know a young person who has a passion for sport, enjoys helping others and would love the opportunity to learn about coaching?

Our Trainee Coaching Scheme is inclusive and welcomes young people with learning disabilities. With the right support and encouragement, trainees can develop their confidence, skills and experience while helping to coach our student athletes.

We are currently taking names for our next 6-week Trainee Coaching Course. It’s a chance for young people to get a taster of the scheme, learn some coaching skills and see if it’s something they might enjoy.

And we know it works…

Charlie has been helping us out over the summer and has absolutely loved getting involved in the coaching scheme and helping to coach our student athletes. He’s been inspired by his brothers and has already caught the coaching bug! He can’t wait until he finishes school so he can join us full-time. 🙌

Making positive memories through sport! ❤️

This is something we are incredibly passionate about at Barnability, and one of the many reasons our amazing fundraisers choose to support us.

The money raised helps us fully fund outings and events like this one. For many families, taking part in a big event can feel like a huge step. There can be worries about how their athlete will cope emotionally, whether the environment will be overwhelming, or what might happen if things don’t go to plan.

That’s where our amazing volunteers make such a difference. They provide extra support, encouragement and reassurance, helping athletes — and their families — feel confident enough to give things a go. And when things don’t go quite to plan, we’re there to adapt and support them.

This event was fully funded thanks to Adam Lawson and his amazing friends, who took on a fundraising run in memory of his mum, Kim Websdale. They raised an incredible amount for Barnability, and this is exactly what that generosity helps make possible.

Creating opportunities. Building confidence. Making memories that last. ❤️

This class is definitely one that’s good for the body, heart and head ❤️

But what makes this class truly special is the difference it makes — not just to our clients, but to our coaches too.
