The rain didn’t stop us getting out to run club last night! We might not have been quite this enthusiastic in real life, but we had a great time! 😂

This feels like the perfect time to share this video from 2018.

Back then, I don’t think we were even known as Barnability yet — we were simply a fitness group committed to pushing boundaries and creating opportunities for everyone to be included.

The challenge was for Craig to try paddleboarding, and I invited along the other young people I was coaching at the time . You might recognise some familiar faces, as I’m still coaching many of them today.

Next Sunday, 17 Barnability athletes will be heading back to Duridge Bay for another fantastic day on the water with Coquet Shorebase Trust.

We’re all incredibly excited and can’t wait to make more memories together. Looking back at where we started and seeing how far everyone has come makes moments like these even more special.

💪 Friday Trainee Programme 💪

This week we focused on muscle tightness, injury prevention and recovery techniques. We got hands-on with foam rollers and hockey balls to learn about myofascial release and how it can help keep our bodies moving well.

Safe to say we quickly discovered just how sore tight muscles can be! 😅 We also found that getting into some of the positions to target certain muscles is easier said than done.

One thing was unanimous across the group – the hard foam rollers were definitely not the favourite! 🤣

A great session that highlighted the importance of mobility, recovery and looking after our bodies to help prevent injuries.

Really excited to share this year’s event T-shirt & slogan!

The young lady who came up with this phrase has no idea I’ve done this 😁🫶

We were out in the field training when volunteer Ruth asked Imogen if she was ready. Without hesitation, she replied:

“I was born ready.”

And just like that, our 2026 event slogan was born! 💙

A huge well done to Imogen for inspiring this year’s slogan. We are all awesome, and we are definitely ready for our first event of 2026.

A huge thank you to Adam, who completed an incredible 10-mile run and raised over £7,000. His fundraising is helping to fund our first-ever trip to Duridge Bay and our team T-shirts.

Having team T-shirts helps bring us together, creating a real sense of belonging, unity and team spirit. They help everyone feel part of something special as we prepare to take on new challenges together on 14th June.

Born Ready! 💪🫶

Friday’s Trainee Coaching Program

Yesterday’s session started with some focused core work before moving onto our bigger movements and balance exercises.

It was great to have trainee coach James join the team once again.

We wrapped up the session with a special finale we’ve named The Trilogy — and it definitely brought out everyone’s competitive spirit.

The three challenges were:
A) Bean bag rebound & catch
B ) Co****le
C) Shoot the hoop

All three challenges required precision, great hand-eye coordination and, in Challenge A, awesome reaction speed. We also introduced a points system to make things that little bit more competitive.

Big congratulations to Alex’s winning team, which included David and Jan. Fantastic effort from everyone involved!

Great start to the week!

Anne had a fall over 6 months ago and completely lost her confidence with balance. Since then, we’ve been working on rebuilding it step by step.

The brain is a powerful thing — once doubt creeps in around a movement, overcoming that fear can be incredibly difficult.

Yesterday, Anne went down to one pole. A huge moment, and one that absolutely made both of our days.

She looked at me and said, “I can still do it.”

I never doubted that she could — but sometimes confidence just needs patience, support, and time.

What a fun way to finish the week in the trainee coaching program! 🙌

Simple, fair, and inclusive — no matter your age or ability, everyone could get involved.

The competition got so intense between the group that even the coaches had to go head-to-head! 🔥😄

Bringing the community together is something we are incredibly passionate about.

Our co-mentoring scheme is designed to reduce loneliness among both young and older people, while creating meaningful connections across generations. Through shared activities and support, we aim to improve fitness, balance, and coordination — and, most importantly, boost those feel-good endorphins that help people feel happier, healthier, and more connected.

Wednesday Nights at Barnability ✨

Running, skipping relays (wowza… coordination level: expert 😅), jumping, plank tunnels to commando crawls — and of course, lots of laughter last night.

Fitness doesn’t have to be serious to be effective 💪✨
