Not sure where to go when you need urgent medical care? An Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) could be the right place. ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿ’™

Urgent Treatment Centres provide medical care for illnesses and injuries that need prompt attention but are not life-threatening. They can help you get the right treatment without visiting A&E. ๐Ÿ‘

You may be able to visit an Urgent Treatment Centre for:
๐Ÿฉน Minor burns and scalds
๐Ÿค• Sprains and strains
๐Ÿฆด Minor broken bones and fractures
โœ‚๏ธ Cuts and wounds that may need stitches
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Minor infections and illnesses
๐Ÿœ Insect bites and stings
๐Ÿ‘‚ Ear and throat infections
๐Ÿค’ Fever or minor head injuries

Always call 999 or go to A&E if someone has a life-threatening emergency, such as:
๐Ÿšจ Chest pain or suspected heart attack
๐Ÿšจ Signs of a stroke
๐Ÿšจ Severe breathing difficulties
๐Ÿšจ Serious injuries or heavy bleeding
๐Ÿšจ Loss of consciousness

If you're unsure where to go, NHS 111 can help you find the right service for your needs. ๐Ÿ“ž

Staying active as you get older can help you maintain your independence, improve your balance, strengthen your muscles and bones, reduce your risk of falls, and boost your mental wellbeing. ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ

The NHS recommends that older adults should:
โ€ข Aim to be physically active every day.
โ€ข Do activities that improve strength at least twice a week.
โ€ข Include exercises that improve balance and flexibility, especially if you're at risk of falling.
โ€ข Reduce the amount of time spent sitting by getting up and moving regularly. ๐Ÿ’ช

You don't have to join a gym to stay active. Walking, gardening, dancing, swimming, gentle exercise classes or even doing household chores all count towards a healthier lifestyle. ๐ŸŒผ

Small changes can make a big difference to your health, confidence and quality of life. Why not start today? โค๏ธ

Bowel cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the UK, but when it's found early, it's much easier to treat. That's why the NHS offers bowel cancer screening to people who are eligible. ๐Ÿ’ฉ

The screening test is simple, quick and can be done in the privacy of your own home. It looks for tiny amounts of blood in your poo that you may not be able to see yourself. ๐Ÿ

If you receive your bowel cancer screening kit through the post, don't put it to one side โ€“ complete it and return it as soon as you can. Even if you feel fit and healthy and have no symptoms, taking part in screening can help detect problems early. โœ…

If you notice symptoms such as blood in your poo, a persistent change in your bowel habits, unexplained weight loss or ongoing tummy pain, don't wait for your screening invitationโ€”contact your GP. ๐Ÿ“ž

Taking a few minutes to complete your test could make all the difference. ๐Ÿ’™

07/09/2026

High blood pressure often has no symptoms, but it can increase your risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney disease and other serious health conditions. The good news is that it's easy to check and, if needed, it can often be managed with lifestyle changes or treatment.

During Know Your Numbers! Week, everyone is encouraged to find out their blood pressure reading. Whether you're 20 or 80, knowing your numbers is one of the best ways to take control of your health. This year's theme is "You know your age, do you know your numbers?"

You can have your blood pressure checked:
๐Ÿ’™ At your GP practice
๐Ÿ’™ At many local pharmacies
๐Ÿ’™ At home using a validated blood pressure monitor

If your blood pressure is high, don't panic. Your healthcare team can support you with advice, lifestyle changes and treatment if needed. Small changes, such as eating less salt, being more active and maintaining a healthy weight, can make a big difference. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿšถ

Don't wait for symptoms โ€“ because there often aren't any. Know your numbers and take control of your heart health today. โค๏ธ

Did you know?

The NHS is struggling under ever increasing costs. One of these costs which continues to escalate is that of SMS messaging. We use these important messages to contact you about appointments, results and for many other reasons.

However, every text message we send comes at a cost!

But there is an alternative! By clicking on this link and downloading the NHS App, this allows us to contact you via the app instead which is FREE:

https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/

If you already have the app, please ensure you turn on notifications as otherwise the messages will automatically revert back to SMS which will cost the NHS money.

This is just one simple step you can take towards supporting your NHS and Westerhope Medical Group.

Thank you for your support.
