☀️SOLAR ECLIPSE WARNING: RETINAL SAFETY GUIDE 🌒

On Wednesday, August 12, our region will experience a 90.1% solar eclipse—the most significant astronomical event visible in Newcastle since 1999.

While this is a remarkable event to witness, protecting your long-term visual health requires strict clinical precautions:

Standard Sunglasses Are Not Appropriate: Everyday eyewear—irrespective of brand, frame quality, or lens tint—does not provide sufficient protection for direct solar viewing.

The Invisible Risk: Your retina contains no pain receptors. Irreversible solar retinopathy (macular burning) can manifest rapidly without immediate sensory symptoms.

Approved Viewing Only: Observe the eclipse only using undamaged, ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses, or via indirect pinhole projection. Never view the sun through cameras, binoculars, or optical devices without specialized filters.

70 years of looking out for this community! 🥂✨

Our hearts are so full after celebrating our 70th anniversary yesterday. A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared a memory, and celebrated with us. Whether you’ve been coming to us for decades or you just joined the family, you are the reason we love what we do.

Happy birthday to us!

Feeling immensely proud and rather emotional today as we celebrate 70 years of Querido & Davidson. Looking forward to celebrating with previous staff, patients and our founder, Mr Victor Graham's family. We will also be joined by family of his successor, and my predecessor, Mr Jan-Karel Querido. Sadly he passed away 2 years ago and will be a big miss today.

What feels so poignant is that I took over from Jan- Karel when he was 56 years old, and this year I will be the same age! I am certainly not looking to retire as I immerse and stretch my brain with Module 2 of my independent prescribing qualification this year.

It is an exciting time at the practice with so many new younger members of the team taking the practice forwards with new ideas and ambition. I look forward the next 10 years coaching our clinical staff and passing over the reins to the next generation.
